Lee's Spree Leads Octagon To Win

Lee Hellings heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than sixteen times during an 11-0 win for Plymouth City Super League champions Octagon in an 11-0 win over Kings Arms A.

One of those efforts was the highest checkout of 109 in a doubles win that saw Hellings and his partner Alfie Ford (30.33) put away 1001 points in just 33 darts.

That bettered a 37 dart leg over the same distance by John Mann and Dave Matthews (27.05) whilst Hellings' 3-0 individual success was claimed with the help of a 15 darter.

Three maximums littered the evening's play as Mann topped up his ten ton total with one; joining Ford and Kings' Mike Sant as 180 hitters.

Wayne Town showed his blistering best for Clifton with fourteen ton plusses during a 9-2 success for the Greenbank side over Hyde Park.

Town (26.37) put together a fine 17 dart leg in a 3-0 success whilst fellow Wayne and teammate, Wayne Davis, checked the highest finish with a 91 combination out shot.

A 6-5 win for Raffles at Steampacket saw Harry Bull back to his breath-taking best with thirteen three figure scores whilst Danny Bull made it to ten ton plus visits.

Danny Bull's total was ticked over to double figures by a 114 three dart kill whilst Alec Turner fired the Mutley side's only maximum in the match.

As the score line suggests, it certainly wasn't all one way traffic with Marc Webber's eleven ton contribution providing the best resistance for the home side.

Webber's 16 darter in a 3-2 triumph was the best leg of 501 in the game, which narrowly bettered an 18 darter in the previous rubber from Harry Bull during a 3-1 success.

George Beckett and Neal Hotchkiss (28.60) netted themselves a 35 dart 1001 leg in a doubles outing; the former joining Tony Reid as a 180 hitter in the process.

The Devonport side built commanding 3-1, 4-2 and 5-3 leads during the match before Damian Chalmers finished a revival after seeing two of his teammates recover the deficit to level at 5-5.

Twelve tons from Lee Doncaster helped steer King Billy to a 6-5 win over Kings Arms B; the team recovering from 3-1 and 5-4 down to snatch the win.

Doncaster was well supported in the endeavour by Antony Hayman who put away eleven tons of his own in the match.

Hayman was also the man charged with delivering the victory for the Devonport side; duly delivering a 3-0 win at five a piece with a 17 darter the best leg.

Doncaster himself checked a leg in 17 during his 3-1 defeat to Dave Johns, the very next game after the Johns' teammate Roger Backway provided the very best leg of the match.

Backway's (26.37) 16 darter accented a fine personal performance which ended with the veteran completing a ten ton haul whilst the only maximum of the match went to King Billy's Paul Goundry.

Mark Turner's twelve ton salvo inspired Victory B to a 6-5 win over Fawn B; the highlight of that total was one of the two maximums for his side.

Turner's teammate Scott Hutchinson bagged the other whilst the Greenbank side's best contribution of the night was a 95 checkout from Mark Sargeant.

Fawn A faired slightly better than their stablemates as they managed a 6-5 win in a visit to Victoria; Simon Stevenson top scoring on the night with eleven tons.

Stevenson was one of three players to find a 17 dart leg in the match with one of the others coming in Stevenson's 3-1 defeat to Aaron Wright.

Wright checked a further leg in 18 darts during the win after earlier in the match throwing the only three treble visit of the match.

Wright's teammates contributed to the narrow defeat with Gary Eaton hitting a 90 checkout and a 17 darter in a 3-2 individual success whilst Seth Thompson checking 124 for the highest finish of the match and week.

Wright's win left another game nicely poised at 5-5 with Mike Nancholas bringing home the win for his team in a 3-0 individual success.

Dale Halford's ten tons made the difference for Bluebird B as the visitors to Victory C made their way back to Compton with a 7-4 triumph.

Mark WIlliams was consistent throughout for the defeated Honicknowle side as he checked 108 to give him a ten ton personal tally.

James Smith's 18 dart leg in a 3-1 win was the best leg of the game whilst Smith's teammates Lloyd Sands and Jason Goldsmith both added maximums to their night's work.

Four maximums sparked life into a 7-4 win for Victory A over Bluebird A; Paul Gavican and Mark Shears finding three treble visits for the victors.

Glenn Halford and James Stoodley provided the 180s for the home side; the latter also helping himself to a 100 checkout along the way.

A 96 finish from Jack Heath couldn't arrest Duchy A's slide to a 7-4 defeat at the hands of Ker St, who themselves had Ralph Lancaster firing a 16 darter in a 3-0.

Another 96 checkout on the night was found by Wendy Johnson; an effort that contributed to a 7-4 win for St Levans at Saltram.

Tex Pearce was at something like his rampant best for the Keyham side in a singles win that contained a game best 17 dart leg.

The only noteworthy contribution from either side in a 9-2 win for Cherry Tree over Duchy B was a 79 checkout from Steve Mills.
