Not Over Until The Brady Slings

Alan Brady produced the highest finish of 120 in the Plymouth City Super League but found himself on the end of an 8-3 defeat as Fawn B fell to Clifton Inn in the Greenbank derby match.



Brady's checkout was one of two top finishes on the night as Clifton's Wayne Town added a 114 in his 3-0 win for the visitors whilst Brady's teammate Mike Bassett threw a 17 darter in a 3-1 success.


Dave Matthews sixteen three figure score haul led the Octagon to a 9-2 success over Cherry Tree with that mammoth total contributing to ninety between the two teams.



Octagon blew the opposition away in the first three matches of the tie as John Mann, Alfie Ford and Matthews (27.05) checked their 1001 trebles in just 37 darts.


Swiftly followed was a 38 dart leg from Lee Hellings, Neil White and Fred Goldsmith (26.34) before Mann and Matthews (29.44) returned to put their doubles away in just 34.



Dave Lee, who struck twelve tons for the defeated team, then checked 80 in a single visit to put the Pennycross team's first point on the board before the league leaders stretched their lead to 4-1 going into the singles.


Ford's 3-0 success saw him finish 110 in three darts for the highest finish of the match before Hellings set about his opponent with a 3-1 success, which saw legs of 16 and 18 darts.



Hellings also rounded off a thirteen ton personal haul in that match before Matthews suffered a 3-2 loss to John Greatrex; who survived an onslaught of tons plus an 18 darter from the Devon man.


Mann (28.36) completed a personal tally of ten tons in his 3-0 success which was accented by a brace of 17 dart legs.



White also showed his class with a 16 darter in his 3-1 triumph that ended with the former Champion of Champions becoming the fourth Octagon man to reach double figures in ton plusses.


Tex Pearce led his St Levans team to a 6-5 win in their visit to Victoria with thirteen tons as well as a deciding 3-0 victory in the last game of the night with the scores tied at 5-5.



Teammate Mark Hopkins' 76 checkout claimed the highest of the contest whilst there was three maximums with John Sturdy's sole effort being joined by one each from Mick Bingham and Steve Williams.


Another thirteen ton haul, this one coming from Glenn Halford, gave Bluebird A a platform to secure a 9-2 success over Ker St.



Halford was well supported by teammate Glenn Austin who threw ten tons including his team's only maximum of the game.


Austin also secured the highest checkout of the match with a 74 kill whilst James Stoodley also lit up the affair with an impressive 14 darter in a 3-0 individual success.



The only noteworthy contribution of the evening from the defeated team cam from a Pete Lamerton who added the Devonport side's only 180.


Dave Johns impressed in Kings Arms B's 9-2 win over Victory C with his twelve tons being rounded off during a brilliant individuals display.



Johns (28.36) checked two of three legs he won in the whitewash success in just 17 darts, which was the only legs on the night that bettered an 18 darter from Paul Carpenter in his 3-1 win.


Carpenter also added a game high finish of 117 in that matchup against Jason Goldsmith who fired a 180 in riposte during the defeat.



Goldsmith was also involved in the Honicknowle team's other key moment as he teamed with Tony Moody and Ryan Harris (28.60) to put together a 35 dart 1001 trebles.


Andy Malinowski continues to enjoy his outings in the league for the Oreston side with another 180 for the veteran in a 3-1 triumph.



Al Rowe top scored for Raffles with eleven three figure scores but still found himself on the wrong end of a 10-1 defeat as King Billy steamrollered the visitors.


Game shot was called twice in the match when players were left with 111 as both Lee Doncaster and Paul Palmer checked that number in a single visit during the match.



Doncaster showed good form in the individual phase with a 3-1 win that saw him produce legs of 15 and 18 darts.


Palmer was also clinical in his 3-0 win with a 15 darter whilst Paul Goundry checked a leg in 18 in another 3-0 win for the Devonport side.



Scott Wapshott and Paddy Archibald added the reigning champions only maximums of the match to round off a fine team performance.


Mark Shears eleven tons wasn't bettered by any player during Victory A's 10-1 triumph over Kings Arms A which also saw three more modest checkouts.



Tom James 74 kill was beaten twice by his own teammates as Shears checked 84 and Danny Allen claimed the game's high checkout honours with an 86.


Shears (24.64) 3-0 win was the best average of the evening whilst Allen also won by the same score line with the help of a leg in 18 and his team's only maximum.



Simon Stevenson's class shone through as he threw eleven tons during a 7-4 win for Fawn A in their visit to Hyde Park.


Other highlights came from Dave Clemson who checked 106 in a single visit whilst Mike Nancholas claimed a 14 darter during his 3-1 success against Lee Dennis who fired the only maximum of the match in the loss.



Devon's Kirsty Whiting-O'Brien added a 91 checkout to her 3-1 win in Victory B's 9-2 success on the road at Duchy A.


The only noteworthy contribution from both sides during an 11-0 win for Colebrook over Duchy B came from the hand of Darren Smith who threw an 88 checkout.



A close fought 6-5 win for Saltram over Bluebird B saw Dale Halford produce a 70 checkout that claimed the game high honours for the defeated team.
