Octagon Title Hopes Dented

Octagon beat third placed Victory A 6-5 but saw their Plymouth City Super League title chase derail slightly due to that result and the leaders continued good form in recent weeks.

Octagon's "Mr Consistent", Neil White, was once again the star of the show scoring wise with thirteen ton plusses, which included his team's only maximum.

Fred Goldsmith also scored heavily for the Octagon with eleven three figure scores in a run that helped the Stonehouse build a 6-3 lead.

Mark Gilbery checked a leg in one visit from 121 and bagged another in just 12 darts whilst teammate Cameron Pickard got the better of White 3-2 thanks in part to a 102 checkout to make the score more respectable.

That effort was one of eleven tons personally scored by Pickard whilst Honicknowle stablemate Quinton Taylor notched a brace of 180s for his team with Phil Hoyle scoring the other.

That result allowed King Billy to stretch their lead after a 9-2 win at Kings Arms B which saw Antony Hayman reach ten tons in a run that included two maximums.

Hayman (30.67) won his singles 3-0 with two fourteen darters whilst the highest checkout of the tie came from teammate Paul Palmer who took out a 115 three dart combination.

Biggest winners of Week 39 were Victory C who took all points on offer from their visit to Bluebird Bandits with Andrew Cook top scoring with twelve three figure scores.

Scott Cook added his name to the 180 column whilst winning his singles 3-0; throwing legs of 17 and 16 darts in the process.

Paddy Archibald and Dan Brazier joined their teammate Cook in achieving a maximum whilst Paul Gavican's 93 was the highest checkout of this contest.

The only resistance the Honicknowle team found was from Jon Parsons who hit his side's only maximum and won a leg in 16 darts in a 3-2 defeat to Archibald.

Bluebird A were narrowly defeated 6-5 by a Clifton team that had Kev Seal top scoring with eleven ton plusses whilst teammate Andy Pengelly notched ten tons of his own.

Glenn Halford and James Stoodley were both prominent for the Compton team as the talismanic pair notched 180s and 17 dart legs in their respective singles wins.

Their teammate Glenn Austin also claimed the high checkout honours from this matchup with a 110 kill in a single visit to the board.

John Donald was the star man for Colebrook with a maximum and 114 checkout in a 10-1 win for the Plympton side over Kings Arms A as Darren Smith added a second 180.

Tex Pearce top scored with thirteen three figure scores but still ended on the wrong side of a 10-1 defeat for St Levans at home to Steampacket.

Maria O'Brien was her team's only winner for St Levans as she bagged eleven three figure scores on a welcomed return to Friday night action for the one time World Championship semi-finalist.

Marc Webber's 100 out shot for the Steampacket was the highest of the match overall and made the difference in a 3-2 singles win.

Raffles came back from their local derby trip to Fawn B with a 7-4 win that saw three players reach ten tons for the Mutley team.

Danny Bull did so with the help of two maximums and added legs of 15 and 18 darts in a 3-1 singles success whilst Adam Fell also added ten tons of his own to the scoreboard.

Harry Bull was the third man to reach double figures whilst the undoubted star for the defeated team was Mark Sargeant who claimed a 16 dart leg and a 180 in a 3-0 singles success.

Ker St claimed a 7-4 away win over Victory B in what turned out to be an exhibition of world class darting prowess with five legs being won in six visits or less.

Cliff Escott added twelve tons to the scoreboard, including a 180, as well as the shortest leg in 15 in a 3-2 singles win.

Ralf Lancaster won a leg in 16 in his 3-2 win over Mark Williams who fired back one of three 17 dart legs on the night.

Ian Heggie added one of those in his 3-0 win whilst Fred Lamerton claimed the other in a narrow 3-2 success for the victorious Devonport team.

Bottom side Hyde Park bagged themselves a second win of the season after a 6-5 win away at Saltram that saw Ben Welsh claim the high checkout honours with a fine 102 three dart kill.

Simon Kelly was the most prominent player for the defeated team with a maximum, 91 checkout and a 15 dart leg all capping a fine individual performance.

Cherry Tree returned from their trip to Victoria with a 74 win as Dave Lee top scored with twelve ton plusses whilst Bob Woods 100 finish was usurped by a 112 by Victoria's Gary Eaton.
