Octagon Win Far From One Mann Mission

John Mann's blistering form continues to ignite Octagon's bid for a second successive Plymouth City Super League title after sixteen tons in a 10-1 Division A win over the talented Steampacket put them fifteen clear.

That result certainly wasn't down to the form of one man however as Lee Hellings showed his class with fourteen tons whilst Neil White also performed admirably with ten three figure scores.

The aforementioned trio shared the five maximums in the match between them as Hellings and White's brace of 180s was joined by a solitary three treble visit from Mann.

The breathtaking team effort was no more apparent than in the doubles phase where Mann and teammate Dave Matthews (30.05) put away their opponents 2-0 in 23 and 17 darts over the 601 distance.

Hellings paired with Ford (26.13) for a brace of 23 dart legs in another 2-0 whilst that was followed by White and Goldsmith's (30.05) own heroics with another success without loss coming in 19 and 21 darts.

The individual phase was lit up by Hellings' (28.36) 13 darter in his 3-0 triumph whilst Dave Matthews fired a 109 checkout in a 3-1 win to take the best finish honours of the one sided clash.

A 6-5 win for Colebrook over King Billy was led by fifteen tons from Dave Hollow whilst Nathan Langdon was also prominent for the victorious side with eleven tons.

As the score suggests, it wasn't all one way traffic with Paul Palmer's thirteen tons providing the main firepower for the defeated visitors.

The cherry on top of Palmer's tally was a 100 checkout in the first game of the match that was one of three ton plus checkouts overall.

Hollow's 106 three dart combination kill had to settle for second best in the match as Antony Hayman netted a 110 to go alongside two maximums he put onto the scoreboard.

Mark Yeoman was also in good nick throughout the contest with ten tons of his own whilst there was five 18 dart legs in a topsy-turvy individual phase.

The first was put away by Paul Palmer in his 3-0 success before Hayman (27.83) added a trio of legs in six completed visits for another 3-0 triumph.

Paul Goundry then lost out 3-2 to the inspired Hollow in spite of his 18 darter before Yeoman's reversal of that score line left the game nicely poised at 5-5.

Despite the pressure well and truly being on, Langdon cooly dispatched his opponent 3-0 to give his team the spoils of a well fought battle between two top quality outfits.

Dave Lee and Dale Halford both added eleven tons to the scoreboard but it was Lee's Cherry Tree A that overcame Halford's Bluebird B by a 6-5 score line.

In what turned out to be a close encounter throughout, the 180s were also shared as Cal Strickson and James Hughes both fired three treble visits.

Simon Kelly's ten ton tally made the difference for Kings Arms B as the Oreston based side were 7-4 winners over visitors Indian Inn.

Kelly's 80 checkout was the best finish of all twenty-six in the match, which narrowly bettered two 76 combinations by teammate Martyn Down to the high checkout honours.

Kelly's teammate Tony Gordon added a 16 darter in his 3-0 triumph whilst Roger Backway put the home side's only maximum onto the scoreboard.

Danny Bull was the other 180 hitter in the game and he added this to a 14 darter in a 3-0 individual success that made the score line slightly more respectable in the final matchup of the night.

In an otherwise quiet night, Glenn Halford's 124 three dart combination gave him the highest checkout of the week in this particular section during a 7-4 win for Bluebird A over Victory.

The only moment of magic in a good spirited 7-4 win for Fawn A at home versus Saltram came in the form of a 112 checkout by Bill Scannell.

In Division B, Tony Reid led the way in the scoring stakes with twelve tons to drive Cherry Tree B to a 7-4 away win at Kings Tamerton.

Reid's total was topped off by one of the two maximums nailed by his side as Logan Carroll also plundered one of his own whilst Paul Hoare's 18 darter in a 3-0 win claimed the best leg of 501 in the contest.

Despite ending on the wrong side of the defeat, a confident and firing Lee Hunter scored well throughout with a ten ton haul that included a 100 checkout that was the best of the affair.

Eleven tons were added to the scoreboard by a member of each of the sides in a 6-5 win for Victoria in their visit to Duchy A.

Jack Heath and Mick Bingham were the achievers of that feat whilst Bingham's 90 checkout bettered Heath's 76 kill for the best checkout of the match.

Ryan Ring produced one moment of magic for the defeated side as he put away 501 in just 17 darts during his 3-1 singles success.

Paul Tackle top scored with eleven tons during a 7-4 success for Ker St against Hyde Park whilst teammate Ian Heggie joined Tackle in producing the highlights of the clash.

Heggie added a maximum to Tackle's 94 checkout that was the best finish of the contest whilst Heggie also produced his team's best leg of 501 overall.

An 18 darter by Heggie in his 3-0 individual win was only bettered by a fine leg in 16 by Ben Welsh for the defeated side whilst Welsh's teammate Lee Dennis added a finish of 80 that was his team's best of the night.

Wayne Town was unlucky to finish on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat after his ten tons for Clifton couldn't get the Greenbank side over the line against Kings Arms A.

Town nailed an 80 checkout that bettered a 71 by his stablemate Dan Jewell, but both of those were blown out of the water by Mike Sant for the visitors.

Sant's three dart combo of 136 claimed the best finish of the match whilst the shortest game of 501 came from the arm of Town in 18 darts during a 3-0 triumph.

Sant's teammate Colin Sloman showed the type of darts that has kept him amongst the elite for the best part of four decades with the only maximum of the match in a 3-1 singles success.

That result for second placed Clifton, coupled with a 10-1 triumph by leaders Cornwall Gate over Duchy B near enough confirmed the inevitable crowning of the Division B champions with the gap now twenty-two points.

Col Maddocks' 156 checkout for the champions elect was the best moment of that matchup, which was the biggest checkout taken out in both divisions of the league.

Matt Vosper added a 16 darter to Maddocks' heroics whilst the only maximum of the match came from the arm of Simon Stevenson.

A 21 dart leg over the 601 distance was the main effort to write home about in St Levans 7-4 win over rivals for third in the standings, Fawn B.

Pearce netted a 65 checkout to go alongside a 17 darter in a 3-1 success that moves him onto thirteen wins from thirteen matches he's been involved in this season, having missed a few due to other commitments.
