Ton Hitting Oh So Simple For Simon
Fawn A's talismanic star player Simon Stevenson led the way once again with sixteen three figure scores in a 9-2 Plymouth City Super League Greenbank local derby success over Clifton.
Stevenson claimed a 180 and a what turned out to be a crucial 16 darter in a 3-2 success over Dan Jewell; who himself had added his name to the maximum column with one of his own.
Stevenson's brilliant leg wasn't the best of the contest however as Mike Nancholas proved there's life in the old dog yet with a fine 14 darter in a 3-0 win.
In the previous singles rubber, Dave Roberts had checked 125 in a single visit to the board in another 3-0 individual success.
That effort bested a 113 three dart combination out shot from teammate Dan Bunney who also won his individual game without dropping a single leg.
Danny Bull showed the form that earned him Devon selection on sixteen occasions with twelve ton plusses for Raffles, but still found himself on the wrong side of a 9-2 defeat against Octagon.
Bull was supported by James Ewing who netted ten tons himself but found, like most teams have done this campaign, the Stonehouse side in blistering form.
Neil White top scored for the champions elect with the second twelve ton haul of the match whilst John Mann and Lee Hellings who nailed eleven three figure scores.
The high scoring contest also saw no fewer than seven 180s put onto the scoreboard; Mann leading the way in that statistic with a brace.
Teammates White and Hellings joined teammate Dave Matthews in achieving that notable feat whilst Bull and his stablemate Alec Turner fired one each in riposte.
Three of those efforts were ploughed in during two excellent 1001 doubles games as Mann and Matthews (28.60) chalked one each in a 35 darter whilst Hellings hit his in 38 dart pairs success with Alfie Ford.
Those legs were somewhat overshadowed by an 11 darter from Harry Bull during a 3-1 individual triumph; a leg more remarkable when you consider the young starlet turned down a shot at the bull to complete in 10 darts.
Matthews (25.68) completed the 9-2 victory in style when beating Bull Snr 3-2 with the help of the highest checkout of the match; a fine 116.
Neal Hotchkiss' twelve tons remained unbeaten by any of the twelve on display in a 10-1 win for his Steampacket side at home to Duchy B.
Mike Connell showed his undoubted class with a 128 checkout as well as a maximum; the latter feat replicated by George Beckett.
Paul Palmer's three maximums in a 7-4 win for King Billy over Colebrook rounded off an eleven ton personal haul.
Palmer's teammate Antony Hayman was also in good nick with a maximum and a 13 darter during a 3-0 triumph.
Nathan Langdon top scored for the defeated team with eleven tons of his own whilst two of his felled teammates provided moments of their very best.
Dave Hollow's 84 checkout was the highest of the match whilst Dave Reed gave the Plympton high flyers their only three treble visit of the match in a 3-2 defeat to Palmer.
James Smith threw eleven tons at Cherry Tree for his Victory C team but still found himself on the wrong side of a 9-2 defeat.
Steve Mills showed sharp-shooting with checkouts of 106 and 110 in a 3-0 singles win for the victorious Pennycross side.
Two excellent checkouts lit up Saltram's 8-3 win over Kings A as prodigy Frankie Stout provided the first with a fine 88 kill.
At the complete opposite end of the age spectrum, Reg Matthews' 149 three dart combination outshot usurped that effort to claim both the highest checkout for the match, and for the week.
The least number of darts honours went to Pete Down who bagged himself a 16 darter in a fine 3-0 success that turned out to be the only singles success for his defeated Oreston side.
There was a 180 a piece either side in Victory A's 6-5 success at Kings B with Tom James joining Paul Carpenter in hitting three treble twenties in a single visit.
Matt Chegwin's 75 checkout gave him the highest checkout of the contest and got him over the line to a 3-0 individual triumph.
Paul Hoare added a brace of 180s to the board for Victory B who came away from their trip to St Levans with a 7-4 win.
Sean Burkitt added a third 180 from his team but was downed by Tex Pearce who hit a maximum of his own during the 3-1 triumph over Burkitt.
Both Hoare and teammate Scott Hutchinson added 18 dart legs during their 3-0 individual wins whilst Ian Duncan's superb 137 out was the best recorded in this particular match.
Glenn Halford's two maximums and his single visit 78 out shot led Bluebird A to a 9-2 win in their visit to Victoria.
Jack Heath's 92 checkout provided some welcome respite in an otherwise disappointing 8-3 defeat for Duchy A in their visit to Hyde Park.
The only noteworthy contribution from both sides in a 7-4 win for Bluebird B over Ker St came from the ever reliable arm of Dale Halford who checked one leg in a single visit from 72.
