Top super league showing from Hutchinson

MARITIME Social Club made it five wins from as many starts when they defeated Rowing Club A 8-1 (Paignton) and top the premier division of the Devon County Super League with an eight-point advantage.

Scott Hutchinson laid the foundations with an excellent 4-0 win in 11, 18, 19 and 15, giving him a 31.81 average, before Lee Hellings (25.25) won 4-1, clinching the fifth leg with an outshot of 153.

Kieran Burns (22.14) came from 3-2 down to win by the odd leg in seven while there were 4-1 victories for Glyn Wells (25.93) and Mark Turner (24.51).

A solid 4-1 victory was also attained by Dave Matthews (28.66) in 20, 16, 18 and 14 while Neil White (23.17) and Mike Pearce (24.34) both emerged 4-2 winners with a 14-darter being achieved by Pearce.

However, the long journey to King Arms (South Molton) was rewarded with a 7-2 victory.

Tom James (19.93) earned the first point with a 4-2 win and Scott Lawrey (25.69) followed with victory in four straight legs.

Ralph Lancaster (20.36) showed grit and determination to come from 3-1 down and win 4-3 while a victory that went the full seven legs was also claimed by Gary Phillips (21.60).

Marc Cresswell (22.96) won with the loss of just a single leg as did man-of-the-match Mark Hatherley (27.07) who secured the decisive fifth leg with a kill of 119.

Porters Pretenders were edged out 5-4 away at Railway Boyz (Exeter) despite winning the first two points.

Paul Palmer and Mark Shears (23.58) won 4-1 and 4-0 respectively but the hosts then took two on the bounce before S George edged Porters back in front after going the full distance.

The Exeter side then won another two games in succession before Lewis Dare (23.58) made it 4-4 with a win in straight legs but the final game was lost to Porters 4-1.

St Levan Inn are in third place in ladies’ division one but only two points separate the leading trio.

Following a win against Bunch of Shunters, they remain unbeaten after four matches.

Despite being pushed the full distance by their Exeter opponents they won their seventh and decisive point through Cat Callard (3-1).

Angie Trout also won by the same scoreline while Hayley Brant came from 2-1 down to win 3-2.

An outstanding performance was delivered once again by Maria O’Brien who, in winning 3-0 in 20, 15 and 20, emerged with a 27.33 average.

Poor finishing cost Maritime Ladies what would have been their second victory of the campaign after they lost 4-3 away to Heavitree Ladies (Exeter).

The Keyham side had Kayleigh Adams winning the first point of the match before the hosts took the next four.

Maritime’s Cathy Lofthouse and Jodie Hawton made the scoreline respectable when they won 3-1 and 3-0 respectively.
