Top two teams stay ahead of the pack

THERE is little change at the top of the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League after the leading duo both won in double figures.

League leaders Porters Patriots inflicted a first defeat on Brookside by a 10-1 margin and showed good form when registering 67 throws of a ton or more.

Andy Bates hit no fewer than 18, which included an outshot of 130 and he was well supported by Antony Hayman (100x16).

Second placed Maritime Marauders took all 11 points from their fixture against The Clifton which included all six singles for the loss of just one leg.

They hit five maximums which included a brace for Mike Pearce.

GOOD GORD: Warren Gordon showed good form in Kings Arms' victory when top scoring with 19 throws of a ton or more, 12 of which came in a 3-1 singles victory.

Fawn A tasted defeat for the first time when they were beaten 9-2 by Falstaff while Kings Arms secured all but one of the 11 points when hosting Duchy of Cornwall.

The Oreston side received good service from Warren Gordon who recorded 19 throws of a ton or more, 12 of which came in a 3-1 singles victory.

Cherry Tree had Marc Webber notching two maximums in their 9-2 victory against Waterloo but the visitor’s only individual winner, Keith Walton, caught the eye when finishing a 15-darter with a kill of 136, before going on to take the tie 3-2.

Porters Pretenders, despite leading 3-0, were taken to 5-5 by City Social, which included a 3-0 win for Glyn Wells (100x14), before Mark Shears claimed the 11th and decisive point in three straight legs.

Torpoint Cons won 7-4 against Fawn B and had Keith Bryant hitting two 180s in a 12-dart leg, before going on to a 3-2 singles victory.

Also catching the eye was Bryant’s Torpoint team-mate Andy Waters, who also came out on the right side of a five-leg encounter, aided by a checkout of 107.

There were also 7-4 victories for Plympton Cons and Octagon Social Club against Maritime Musketeers and Indian Inn respectively.

Maritime Misfits got off the mark with their first victory of the campaign after having to win the last two singles which included a 3-1 success for Scott Hutchinson, buoyed also by the week’s highest checkout of 140.
