World Series of Darts finals for Stevenson

SIMON Stevenson will take his place amongst the world’s elite players when the Ladbrokes World Series of Darts finals opens on Friday at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow.

The Mirrorman produced one of his best performances of the season at the Barnsley Metrodome to qualify for the prestigious tournament which will be televised throughout its entirety by ITV4.

After having received a bye at the round of 128 stage, he ousted the 13th ranked world player Robert Thornton 5-3.

DONE IT: Plymouth PDC professional Simon Stevenson shows his delight after qualifying for the finals of the Ladbrokes World Series of Darts which takes place this Friday in Glasgow.

He then ended the hopes of 29-year-old Dutchman Yordi Meevwisse 5-2 before having to face Andy Jenkins.

The 46-year-old from Portsmouth had beaten Stevenson as recently as August in Players Championship 17, but the Plymothian avenged that defeat with a victory that went the full nine legs.

As one of eight qualifiers, Stevenson will meet either Adrian Lewis, Mensur Suljovic, Dave Chisnall or Jelle Klaasen who all qualified from the PDC Order of Merit or one of the four invited players, Simon Whitlock, Corey Cadby, Michael Smith or Max Hopp.

Should Stevenson win his opening match, he would then have to play one of the top eight seeds who will join the competition in round two on Saturday.
