Three ton-plus checkouts for Phillips

GARY Phillips earned the plaudits in week 16 of the Monday Premier League when, in helping Brookside A to a 9-2 defeat of Porters B, he recorded checkouts of 100, 106 and 111.

The week’s highest outshot also came in the same fixture when Andy Bates for the visitors finished at the first time of asking from 158.

As teams prepare for the final match to close out the first half of the season, Maritime A boast a six-point advantage at the top of the table, following their 9-2 victory against Prince Maurice B, with Dan Johnson (100x12) top scoring.

Mark Hatherley won in three straight legs aided by a leg in 15 and Jim Orchard (100x15) was consistent throughout as Firkin Scholar took all 11 points from their fixture against Ford Hotel.

The A team earned the bragging rights in the Steam Packet derby match when they overcame their stablemates 8-3 while Indian Inn B, who previously had only won three from 15, returned to winning ways with a 7-4 success against City Social.

Indian Inn A returned from The Shakespeare with an 8-3 win, from a fixture that saw Danny Bull, Charlie Mitchell and Shakespeare’s John Carr all notching a brace of 180s.

Rich Coombes, the only winner for the hosts, impressed when top-scoring with 13 throws of a ton or more.

Maritime B led Prince Maurice A 3-1, following a 2-0 doubles win for Kieran Burns and Simon Washington, aided by a 601 leg in 18, but were finally edged out 6-5.

The penultimate game saw Sean Taylor hit legs in 19 and 17 but was beaten 3-2 by Lee Roberts before the winning point was achieved by Glenn Austin for the Eggbuckland side.
