29-darter hit for third time this season

MARK Shears earned the plaudits in the Plymouth and District Friday League when he won a 1001 leg in 29 darts for the third time this season.

He claimed an overall average of 34.52 but finished with a burst that saw him score 375 points with his last eight darts, finishing in two from 100, averaging 46.88 on his final three visits.

Despite leading 4-2 and 5-3, his Windmill side were edged out 7-6 by Waterloo A who had Martin Dean making a kill of 111.

MARK(ED) MAN: Mark Shears has hit no fewer than three 1001 legs in 29 darts this season in the Plymouth and District Friday League alone.

There is little change at the top of the table after the top six sides all won in double figures.

Royal Naval Arms A inflicted a 13-0 whitewash of Stoke Bar and Grill while Porters A, Indian Inn A and City Social, all won 11-2.

Keith Blight (100x13) top scored for Kings Tamerton CC in their 10-3 defeat of Brookside, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Steam Packet B on their visit to Waterloo C.

James Taylor was on target with a checkout of 119, inspiring Martitime B to a win by the narrowest of margins away at Porters C and there was also a 7-6 victory for The Fawn after they came from behind and won the last two singles away at Steam Packet A.

Another close encounter was witnessed at Octagon Social Club, but it was the visitors Porters B who achieved the 7-6 win.

They had Jon Matlock (27.05) winning in 37 while Steve Bishop registered the week’s highest checkout when finishing at the first time of asking from 125.

Royal Naval Arms B were 8-5 winners away at Queens Dock as were Indian Inn B when hosting Jolly Miller who had Brum Jeavons and Jim Williams winning their doubles game in 36 (27.81).
