Outstanding performances again from top league
OUTSTANDING performances in week nine, reiterated once again that the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League, is the best in Plymouth.
Eight of the 10 fixtures produced no fewer than 32 maximum scores with three players hitting three each and another four registering braces.
To add to that tally, there were 16 checkouts of a ton or more, headed by Phil Hoyle’s mark of 149.
That outshot came in an excellent fixture which Octagon won 8-3 when defeating Maritime Marauders.
A total of 122 ton plus scores were recorded which included six 180s, three coming from Dan Puleston.
WINNER: Alfie Ford was a winner for Octagon Social Club in their 8-3 defeat of Maritime Marauders.
Alfie Ford emerged a 3-1 winner in 16, 15 and 19 and Ralph Lancaster clinched his singles, aided by a leg in 14.
Porters Patriots increased their lead at the top of the table to a whopping 23 points after only nine matches, but behind them, just three points separate the next six.
The tabletoppers took all 11 points from their visit to Duchy of Cornwall, having John Mann as their leading marksman with 16 ton plus scores which included two maximums.
City Social won 9-2 away at The Clifton and Maria O’Brien again showed excellent form when she achieved a 28.90 average in winning 3-0 in 19, 16 and 17.
O’Brien also hit a top score of 180, in all three disciplines of the fixture and was well supported by Glyn Wells (28.84) who won in 18, 22 and 16.
Falstaff secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer when hosting Waterloo Inn and had Lewis Dare and Alex Brown winning their doubles in style, aided by a 601 leg in 18 darts.
Kings Arms defeated Fawn B by the narrowest of margins while Brookside defeated Compton Social Club 10-1, winning all six singles without losing a leg.
Porters Pretenders defeated Torpoint Cons 9-2 with John Goves as the only winner for the Cornish side and the fixture’s top marksman with 16 ton plus scores.
Dave Collins (100x12) was consistent throughout for Plympton Cons in their 8-3 win against Brewery Tap (formerly Cherry Tree), while Maritime Misfits won 8-3 on their visit to Fawn A.
Shaun Dring (100x14) was prominent for the winners and team mate Dan Scott hit a brace of 180s in a 3-2 singles victory.
A well contested fixture at Indian Inn saw the hosts defeat Maritime Musketeers by a 7-4 margin with 109 ton plus scores recorded, seven of which were maximums, with Lee Agar and Paul Gavican hitting two each.
Marcus Weetman (100x14) played well throughout for the winners as did Phil Evans (100x14) for the Musketeers.
