Maritime boast 10-point lead at top of super league

MARITIME Social Club have extended their lead at the top of the premier division to 10 points, after inflicting on Dad’s Army (Newton Abbot), a 9-0 drubbing.

Billy Evans (21.55) started the assault when winning 4-1, aided by a 15-dart leg and the scoreline was repeated in the very next set by Lee Hellings (22.21).

Scott Hutchinson (20.66) won in four straight legs which included an 18-darter which he finished with a kill of 105 before Dave Matthews (24.43) also showed his finishing prowess and took out a kill of 112 before going on to a 4-2 victory.

An outshot of 110 was the highlight of Glyn Wells’s (21.19) 4-3 success followed by 4-0 wins for both Mike Pearce (22.52) and Neil White (24.14).

TOP PERFORMER: Danny Allen impressed for Maritime in the Devon County Super League

with a man-of-the-match performance that yielded a 24.55 average.

Jason Pinkerton (22.53) came through his encounter with the loss of just a single leg while Danny Allen (24.55) was their top performer, coming from 3-1 down to win 4-3, with his best leg coming in 14.

Porters Patriots produced their best performance of the season to inflict a 6-3 defeat on Exeter Eagles.

They went into this fixture with only one win from their previous seven matches but defeated their illustrious opponents, who were previously in second spot, but have now dropped down to third.

John Mann (30.73) was Porters first winner and inspired his side with a 4-1 victory in 16, 14, 19 and 15.

Andy Bates (21.55) and Mark Odgers (20.88) both won without loss while Phil Stewart (23.07) won 4-2 and Alex Turner (24.17) and Reg Matthews (23.65) both won 4-1.

Ker St Social Club kept their promotion hopes to the premier division alive when they made the long journey to Torrington, but were rewarded with a 7-2 victory that was inspired by man of the match Gary Phillips who emerged a 4-1 winner with an average of 25.15.

Kevin Johnson (18.47) was victorious despite having to go the full five legs while there were 4-0 successes for Scott Lawrey (21.55), Dave Algar (21.78) and Kelvin Rowe (18.39).

Also gaining valuable points, dropping just a single leg, were Darren Collis (21.45) and Tom James (19.52).

Also in Division One, Porters Pretenders returned from Exeter with a 6-3 victory after they defeated Golden Lions.

Paul Palmer (22.46) was pushed the full distance but came out of the five-game encounter as a winner while Paul Goundry (19.27) won 4-0 and George Tucker (16.36) triumphed 4-2.

The trio of Lewis Dare (16.70), Richard Wheatley (18.41) and Steve Brocklesby (21.38) all won with the loss of just a single leg.

Maritime found it tough against the ladies’ division one leaders Bunch of Shunters (Exeter) and crashed to a 6-1 defeat with Mel Sharpe as their only winner.
