Tradesman deny Indian Inn top spot despite 6-5 loss

INDIAN Inn A failed to take advantage of Kings Tamerton’s inactivity in the Plymouth and District Friday League and remain in second place, four points off the pace, but having now played a game more, after they could only win by the narrowest of margins.

The Tradesman, who were 26 points behind their opponents at the start of the fixture, played much better than their league position would suggest and led 6-4 before Indian secured the last three singles for victory.

Bull and Bush won 11-2 away at Waterloo Inn and had Phil Kilpatrick and Chris Beale both hitting maximums in a good doubles success while there were 12-1 victories for Steam Packet and Brewery Tap A against The Office and Dinky Diner B respectively.

Porters defeated Pennycross Social Club 9-4, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Indian Inn B when hosting Brookside.

EYE-CATCHING: Simon Washington caught the eye in Dinky Diner A's 12-1 victory over Brewery Tap B and was their leading marksman with 11 three-figure scores.

Octagon lost for only the second time when they were beaten 8-5 by City Social A, despite some good performances.

Steve Daley and Paddy Archibald (27.81) secured their doubles in 36 and Daley also achieved a checkout of 102 but the mark was bettered by Social’s Andy Downton and it was good enough to win the award for the week’s best.

Weston Mill Oak Villa came from behind and clinched the last three singles to edge out Railway 7-6 while Queens Dock won on the road and defeated City Social B 10-3.

Jolly Miller returned to winning ways and inflicted on Royal Naval Arms B an 11-2 reverse while The Windmill suffered their heaviest defeat in a long while when they only took one point away at Royal Naval Arms A.

Andy Bates (28.60) was again prominent for the winners and won his singles in 35, as well as being their leading marksman with 12 throws of a ton or more.

Simon Washington (100x11) caught the eye for Dinky Diner A as they claimed all but one of the 13 points that were on offer when hosting Brewery Tap B while The Fawn, despite trailing 5-2, took all six singles at City Social C to prevail 8-5.
