Porters go top as Octagon lose for only second time

PORTERS are the new leaders of the Plymouth City Super League after taking maximum points from their visit to Maritime C while previous table-toppers Octagon Social Club drop down into second spot after being edged out 6-5 at home to The Tradesman.

Octagon battled back from a 4-1 deficit to draw level at 5-5 when Alfie Ford defeated Neil Reid (180x2) 3-2, before Paul Tackle won the 11th and decisive points with a 3-1 victory over Octagon’s Dave Hall.

Kings Arms inflicted on The Clifton an 11-0 whitewash while St Levan Inn and The Albermarle both won 7-4 against Compton Social Club and Ships Tavern respectively.

Cherry Tree defeated Ker St Social Club 8-3, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Maritime A when hosting The Staddy with Neil White (100x11) and Quinton Taylor (100x11) as their leading marksmen.

No fewer than eight maximums were recorded in Maritime B’s 8-3 defeat of The Fawn with Phil Hoyle notching a brace for the winners.

Shaun Dring (pictured left) was consistent throughout with 13 throws of a ton or more which included a checkout of 126 while Dan Bunney top scored for The Fawn, hitting 12 ton plus throws which included two maximums.

Glen Halford (100x16) inspired The Bluebird to a 9-2 success away at Victoria while Plympton Cons A consolidated third spot with a 10-1 win against their stablemates Cons B.

Colin Lock pushed Simon Stevenson the full distance before being edged out 3-2 but recorded the week’s highest checkout with a mark of 155.
