Great performances from Plymouth's top darts league
HIGH standards were evident once again in Plymouth’s top darts league when the 10 fixtures from the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League, produced 26 scores of 180 and 18 checkouts of a ton or more, 10 of which were marks of 120 or better.
League leaders Porters Patriots secured maximum points when hosting Victory B and increased their advantage at the top of the table to nine points.
The highlight of the match was an excellent singles win for John Mann (pictured) in 15, 16 and 13 giving him a single dart average of 34.16.
Second placed Victory Inn A edged out Porters Pretenders in a well contested fixture that saw 98 ton plus scores recorded with Gary Phillips (100x14) as leading marksman.
Four times Pretenders took the lead and four times the Honicknowle side levelled before Neil White and Kelvin Rowe won two on the bounce to give Victory their win.
Duchy of Cornwall produced arguably their best performance of the campaign to claim all but one of the 11 points that were on offer at Maritime Nutters while Dan Hill (100x11) was prominent for Fawn A in their 9-2 victory against Indian Inn A.
Cherry Tree defeated Falstaff 7-4, but it was Lewis Dare for the Southway side that caught the eye when he top-scored with 11 ton plus throws, which included a brace of 180s, and a 3-2 winner in the individual phases, aided by a leg in 14.
Mike Whatley emerged a 3-1 winner, with his best legs being won in 12 and 15 but finished up on the wrong end of a 7-4 scoreline when The Office were defeated by Fawn B.
Kings Arms triumphed 8-3 away at Maritime Musketeers while Maritime Governors also won away from home when beating Indian Inn B, 10-1.
Jason Pinkerton (100x12) top scored and took his singles in three straight legs while Danny Allen was on target with three maximums.
Maritime Marauders won 9-2 on their visit to Octagon Social Club and put 57 throws of a ton or more on the scoreboard.
They made their intentions known as early as the first game of the match when Dave Matthews, Phil Hoyle and Tex Pearce won their 801 trebles game in just 22 darts, boasting a single-dart average of 36.41.
Tex Pearce (26.84) went on to win his singles 3-0 in 18, 21 and 17 and was well supported by Mike Pearce who was a 3-1 winner in 18, 15 and 21.
Steve Duke hit two maximums in Compton’s only singles success as they were beaten 9-2 by Brewery Tap.
The highlight of the match though was an excellent performance from Tap’s Maria O’Brien who, in winning her singles in three straight legs, hit 10 ton plus scores, including three 140s and the week’s top checkout of 160.
