Marauders win to challenge for second place outright
MARITIME Marauders are now in joint second place in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League, on the back of a 10-1 victory away at Fawn A.
The match produced seven maximum scores, two of which were achieved by Dave Matthews and the Marauders went through the six individual phases without dropping a leg.
They are now on 146 points with Victory A, but 12 points behind the league leaders Porters Patriots, who remain undefeated following their 10-1 success against Cherry Tree.
This fixture saw six maximums recorded, two each for Robbie Bisgrove and Antony Hayman, who emerged a 3-0 winner in the singles with his best leg being won in 14.
John Mann was also prominent, and top scored with 15 throws of a ton or more.
Another high-scoring fixture involved Victory Inn A and Kings Arms which the former won by a 7-4 margin.
There were 129 throws of a ton or more recorded, including seven maximums, 69 of which were achieved by the winners.
Darren Collis was on target with a brace of 180s and Gary Phillips (100x16) and Neil White (100x13) top scored.
Kings Arms (100x60) also gave a good account of themselves despite ending up on the losing side and had Chrissie Kinnaird and Paul Hendy as their top throwers, who equally shared a 22-ton haul.
Maritime Musketeers showed their fighting spirit when they bounced back from a 3-1 deficit to edge out The Office 6-5.
Missed doubles cost The Office victory, but they could not be faulted on their scoring ability, amassing 55 throws of a ton or more, 34 of which came from Paul Gavican (100x19) and Mike Whatley (100x15).
At the bottom end of the table, both Maritime Nutters and Indian Inn B were without a win after 17 matches, but that all changed when Maritime defeated their fellow strugglers 7-4 to taste success for the first time.
Octagon Social Club overcame The Falstaff 8-3 and Victory Inn B won by the narrowest of margins away at Compton Social Club while Porters Pretenders defeated Indian Inn A with the loss of just a single point.
Paul Tozer and Jon Matlock both emerged 3-1 winners, with their best legs being won in 16 and 18 while Scott Wapshott (100x12) top scored.
Jason Pinkerton caught the eye when top-scoring with 16 throws of a ton or more but ended up on the wrong side of a 6-5 scoreline when Maritime Governors were edged out by Fawn B.
The visitors had Fred Goldsmith on target with a brace of 180s and Dave Hall (pictured) registered the week’s highest checkout when finishing at the first time of asking from 153.
