Porters share lead with rivals after beating them 8-3

THE top fixture in the Plymouth City Super League produced an 8-3 victory for Porters over Maritime A and the Barbican side are now level with their rivals on 245 points.

Not surprisingly, this encounter was highly contested, evident in the fact that of the 104 three-figure scores that were recorded, there were nine maximums and 22 throws of 140.

John Mann was prominent for the winners with 13 tons which included two maximums and also catching the eye was Mike Beard (100x15) who inflicted a rare individual defeat on Neil White (180x2) who now shares the lead of the singles table with Stew Roberts and Glenn Halford, all on 27 wins.

Dave Matthews shone for Maritime A and won 3-1, aided by a leg in 13, as well as notching 13 throws of a ton or more, including two 180s.

The Staddy secured all but one of the 11 points when hosting The Fawn while The Clifton edged out The Albemarle 6-5 and Maritime C won 7-4 at Victoria.

The Tradesman defeated Kings Arms A 7-4 and had Paul Bowen emerging a 3-0 winner, with his best leg being won in 13.

Octagon Social Club were 10-1 winners on their visit to St Levan Inn and had Lee Hellings (100x14) emerging a 3-1 success, aided by a leg in 15 and was well supported by Fred Goldsmith (100x14).

Plympton Cons B were 9-2 winners when hosting Kings Arms B and had Andy Bond catching the eye when, in a double’s success with Henry Cooper, he recorded two maximum throws.

Maritime B were another side to win in double figures when dropping just a single point and had Rich Wheatley (100x13) as their leading marksman.

Jon Easterbrook was on target with two maximums but was their only loser when edged out by Compton’s Geoff Norman.

Steve Harris (100x11) hit a brace of 180s in Bluebird’s 8-3 win over Cherry Tree while Plympton Cons A won on the road and defeated Ker St Social Club 9-2.

Dave Collins (28.90) (pictured) emerged a 3-0 winner in 19, 18 and 15 and Andy Malinowski gave a good account of himself when he secured his singles game by a 3-2 margin, aided by a leg in 14.

Porters’ Paul Palmer registered the week’s highest checkout with a mark of 129, while also on target were: Dale Halford (121), Warren Gordon (116), Neil White (115), Peter Lamerton (106), Andy Bond (103), Lee Hellings (101).
