Mann of the match inspires Maritime to Super Lge win

MARITIME Social Club consolidated second spot in the premier division of the Devon County Super League when they defeated their Plymouth rivals Porters, 6-3.

Porters had Lewis Dare (22.71) winning the first point with a 4-2 victory only for John Mann (29.47) (pictured below) to level with a man of the match performance when winning 4-0 in 15, 15, 14, 24, which included an outshot of 120.

Phil Stewart (25.01) won 4-2 to edge the hosts back in front but the two sides were all level again when Shaun Dring (20.88) emerged a 4-0 winner.

Kieran Burns (27.45) edged Maritime in front for the first time when winning 4-0, his best leg being claimed in 15 when checking out from 140.

Mark Shears (27.18) kept Porters in the match at 3-3 when he came from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-3 in 20, 14, 16, 18 but that was the last point that Porters were to win.

Danny Bull (24.69) took the coveted scalp of Antony Hayman when, aided by a checkout of 120, he won 4-3 in 21, 14, 18, 19 before Danny Allen (23.19) and Paul Palmer (22.15) wrapped up a comprehensive 6-3 victory when they both emerged 4-1 winners.

Poison Ivy are almost certain to be promoted to the premier division as division one champions after winning their penultimate match of the season against Heathcote.

The first four sets were shared with Pete Holland (18.97) and Fred Godsmith (24.74) winning 4-2 and 4-0 respectively before the Westward Inn side cleaned up.

Neil White (22.95) came from 2-0 down to win 4-3 while a 14-darter was the highlight of Lee Agar’s (24.36) 4-2 success.

Dave Matthews (24.26) finished a 17-darter with a kill of 100 before winning by the narrowest of margins before man-of-the-match Mike Pearce (28.63) won 4-0 which began with a 15-darter and finished with a leg in 12.

Quinton Taylor (25.69) sealed a 7-2 victory when he triumphed 4-0, taking the last leg in 14.

The St Levan Inn side put themselves in a good position to claim another ladies’ title when they edged out Flying Arrows 4-3, a result which gives them a five-point advantage over second-placed Country House Muff Girls, the team they have to play in their final fixture.

Trish Penberthy, Chrissie Kinnaird and Maria O’Brien (23.12) all won 3-0 to put the Levy Ladies 3-1 up and although the visitors came back to level at 3-3, Hayley Brant ensured victory when she also won without dropping a leg.

Maritime Ladies won their penultimate fixture of the season 4-3 when hosting Shipwrecks and if they can win their final match, will finish in fourth place.

Kerry Jenkins and Sue Pullen both won 3-1 as the first four sets were shared before victory was achieved when Lisa Aston (17.89) and Jodie Hawton (17.48) both won 3-0.

And finally did somebody set a Devon County Super League record when they won the deciding leg of their match . . . in 80 darts !
