Octagon lose unbeaten record but remain in the mix

OCTAGON Social Club suffered their first defeat of the season in the Plymouth City Super League when they went down 7-4 away at Maritime A.

Octagon lost the match in the early stages when they were defeated in all three doubles and went into the singles 4-1 down before they had Alfie Ford (30.06) winning 3-0 in 14, 16 and 20 and Fred Goldsmith emerging a 3-1 winner in 17, 18 and 21.

Their title rivals Brewery Tap won all 11 points when hosting The Clifton and had five of the team hitting the 180 mark which included a brace from John Mann. Tap now have a 10-point advantage over their rivals but have played a game more.

The best individual performance on the night came from Dave Collins (pictured) who inspired Plympton Cons A to a 10-1 defeat of Bluebird Bandits, emerging a 3-0 winner in 16, 16 and 15 to post a 31.98 average.

Graham Farrow also caught the eye when he recorded two maximums in a 3-0 singles success.

Bluebird A had Glenn Halford (100x11) and Steve Harris (100x11) top scoring in their 11-0 drubbing of Kings Arms B while Paddy Archibald (100x11) was on target for Ker St B as they edged out The Fawn 6-5.

Kings Arms A defeated Ker St A 8-3 while Kings Tamerton overcame Victoria 9-2 and had Simon Godfrey finding the 180 mark twice in a 3-1 singles success.

The Staddy secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer when they entertained Maritime B and had Tony Gordon hitting a 15-darter and Dave Algar winning 3-1 with his best legs being won in 17 and 19.

Plympton Cons B achieved a 9-2 away at St Levan Inn, the same winning scoreline that was also attained by Steam Packet when hosting Victory Inn B.

Matt Thompson top scored with 11 throws of a ton or more which included seven 140s while Kayleigh Adams gave a good account of herself and secured a leg in 15 darts before being edged out 3-2 by Quinton Taylor.

Victory Inn A held Hyde Park to a single point and had Cameron Pickard throwing the week’s highest checkout with a mark of 122 which came in a 3-2 singles success.

Other notable outshots were also achieved by: Alex Turner (118), Jason Pinkerton (113), Steve Hiscox (110), Dave Algar (108), George Beckett (105), Tony Teal (103), Simon Stevenson (100).
