Eight-year-old Jack gets man-of-match award on debut

DEVON Youth made the long journey to Whitland, Carmarthenshire, but returned with a 9-6 victory after a fine performance against West Wales.

The Under 18s laid the foundations with a 5-2 victory which had no fewer than four players making their debut, three of them being victorious.

Newly appointed team captain Frankie Stout won 3-0 to get the first point on the board and there were wins in straight legs for Lewis Whitley and Pacey Large and also man of the match Jack Nankervis.

Jack, at just eight years old, showed no nerves on his county debut as he won 3-0 with an 18.56 average, while also achieving a debut win was Jacob Masters, despite having to go the full five legs.

The Under 21 Girls maintained Devon’s winning momentum and secured all three points.

Cleo Trelease and Emma Leverett both won 3-1 while Rhea Windsor, in winning 3-0, had the top average of 19.78.

The Boys under 21 found the going tough going against their counterparts and went down 4-1 with only Kieran Peek (pictured) winning.

In achieving a 3-0 victory, Peek also hit the highest average of the day when finishing with 24.24.

Devon will be hoping to build on that opening win when they entertain Glamorgan on November 17 at Heavitree Social Club, Exeter.
