Octagon consolidate behind tabletoppers with 9-2 win

OCTAGON Social Club consolidated second spot behind unbeaten Plymouth City Super League leaders Brewery Tap, when they defeated Cherry Tree 9-2, putting 52 throws of a ton or more on the scoreboard.

Neil White and Dave Pethick won their doubles in 36 darts (27.81) before there were solid performances in the singles from Lee Hellings (26.84), a winner in 17, 17 and 22 and Fred Goldsmith (26.37) in 17, 19 and 21.

Plympton Cons A overcame Kings Arms A 7-4 and had Dave Collins (pictured) as their talisman.

He partnered Tony Teal and Kelvin Rowe to a treble’s success in 37 darts (27.03) before excelling in the singles with a win in 18, 13 and 19 (30.06).

Lee Dennis won 3-1, aided by a leg in 15, but finished up on the wrong end of a 6-5 scoreline when Hyde Park SC were edged out by Bluebird Bandits.

Darren Smith was on target with a brace of 180s in Plympton Cons B’s 8-3 success at The Fawn while in an entertaining fixture Maritime A overcame Steam Packet 7-4.

Packet’s Kayleigh Adams took out a 15-darter with a kill of 112 but was eventually beaten by Shaun Dring (100x11) while Dan Johnson, for the hosts was on target with three maximum scores.

Phil Walsh hit two 180s when turning out for Victoria, but his side were beaten 9-2 by The Staddy.

Dave Algar caught the eye in the individual phases when, in winning 3-1 aided by legs in 16 and 18, he also achieved the week’s top checkout of 136.
