A Dave New World

The Plymouth City Super League was back with a bang as Dave Algar smashed in three maximums for Saltram in their 6-5 opening day defeat to Raffles who had Harry Bull adding a fourth 180 of the game.

Algar's teammate, Reg Matthews, took the high checkout honours with a marvellous 100 in one visit whilst Simon Kelly top scored with eleven ton plusses.

That Matthews effort was usurped by a 137 from Lee Roberts, which took the top finish of the week prize in Bluebird A's 9-2 win at home to the Clifton.

Mike Trim rolled back the years with a magnificent fourteen ton haul during Hyde Park's 8-3 defeat to Bluebird B.

Jon Parsons 96 checkout for the victorious Compton team was beaten on the night by teammate Nigel Bassett who checked 100 in a 3-2 singles win.

Shaun Dring started life in a stacked Octagon team with thirteen ton plusses as the Stonehouse team won 9-2 against Half Moon; a pub that Dring himself used to run.

Lee Hellings (25.47) was also prominent for the clear league favourites with ten tons overall, and a leg in 18 during his 3-0 individual success.

The player he defeated, Jodie Hawton, scored the only maximum on the match in what was always going to be a difficult baptism for the Devonport side.

Kings B's local Plymstock derby trip to Victoria ended in a 6-5 defeat in spite of an thirteen ton haul from Dave Johns that included one of three maximums between the two sides.

Stablemate Roger Backway joined Johns in hitting a 180 whilst Martyn Down claimed the high checkout prize in this contest with a fine 126 three dart combination out shot.

The victors had two prominent players with Mick Bingham reaching ten tons and Gary Eaton hitting the game's third maximum in his 3-2 win that gave the Plymstock side an unassailable 6-4 lead in an entertaining contest.

Darren Smith and Steve Hiscox led Colebrook to a first week 6-5 win over Victory A with eleven a ten tons respectively.

Matt Chegwin reached ten tons for the defeated team whilst Tom James and Mark Shears produced moments of magic with a 180 for the former and 14 darter for the latter in his 3-1 win.

An 8-3 win for Steampacket over Victory C saw George Beckett reach ten tons and teammate Phil Taylor bag as many as eleven.

A 111 checkout from Marc Webber was the biggest finish of the match overall whilst Beckett joined Neal Hotchkiss in hitting the 180 mark.

The only noteworthy contribution from the defeated Honicknowle team came from Lee Lagor's maximum in a 3-1 defeat to Webber.

Victory B started their campaign with a solid 8-3 win at Kings Arms A that saw Lewis Dare reach ten tons for the visitors.

Dare's 18 dart leg in his 3-0 win was matched by teammate Adam Fell who also took a 3-0 success whilst Mike Sant's 95 checkout for the home team was their main highlight.

Fawn's B team suffered an 8-3 reversal at home to St Levans who had Wendy Johnson checking 100 in one visit during the impressive victory.

Fawn A top the early standings after a 10-1 win over newcomers Duchy of Cornwall that featured a Dan Bunney ten ton haul.

Teammates Dave Clemson and Simon Stevenson added to the success with maximums whilst Mark Hempsall contributed an 83 finish, which was the highest of the match.

Melvyn German reached ten tons and managed a 16 darter in his 3-1 singles win as the Cherry Tree defeated Ker St by a 7-4 score line.

German's teammate Nick Miller started life off in the league with a fine maximum but fell to an inspired Paul Tackle 3-2 in the individual phase, who also managed a 180 on his way to ten tons of his own.

A 17 darter from unerring and ageless talent that is Ralph Lancaster in his 3-1 win was one of the four managed by the Devonport team during the matchup.
