Bryant Vibrant As Leaders Sneak Through
The top team in the Plymouth Open League Division A, Beacon Park, are still in the hunt for a league and cup double as an eleven ton haul by Nick Bryant made a dent in 12-10 supplementary cup win over St Johnston A.
That haul came in the second leg 6-5 defeat that actually ended up being fairly hair raising despite the commanding 7-4 lead that was built in the first rubber, thanks in part to a Keith Carter 120 checkout.
After going 2-0 down in the deciding away contest, Beacon Park steadied the ship with a Carter maximum to make it 1-2 before Bryant added four of his huge ton tally to level.
At 3-3, it looked like the contest was out of the reach of the hosts from Keyham before a run of three out of fours singles was completed by a Jedi Hulcoop 100 checkout in a 2-1 win.
That meant St Johnston A could force a playoff with a win the final matchup, but Stan Preen proved the steady hand he's always been in a glittering darting career with a 100 checkout of his own in a 2-0 win to sneak home.
Ed Jarwood fired a maximum as Weston Mill Hotel showed their Division A class with wins of 8-3 and 7-4 to progress 15-7 against Division B's Duchy of Cornwall.
Matt Bridge headlined proceedings with ten tons in the Division B leaders Legends Lounge's second leg 6-5 defeat against fellow B league King Billy B.
Ryan Parker nailed two maximums for the Devonport side in that win but the damage had already been done in an 8-3 first leg success for the St Budeaux outfit.
Two 6-5 wins for Mainstone A made it two Division B sides in the last four despite a 108 checkout provided by Rob May for the defeated Ker St A.
In the knockout cup, Lee Doncaster's ten ton haul included an outshot of 130, which led Victory to a resounding 19-3 win in their two legged win over Prince Maurice.
After an empathic 10-1 first tie success, the Honicknowle side secured safe passage by winning the first two rubbers of the second leg with the first three of Doncaster's dectet of three figure scores contributing.
Teammates Mark Williams and Mike Connell added maximums to Doncaster's performance whilst Liam Donovan added a 180 of his own in riposte for the defeated side who were eventually downed 9-2.
Cherry Tree B's passing into the semi finals was almost equally as straightforward as wins of 7-4 and 9-2 gave the Pennycross side a 16-6 success over Ker St C.
Tony Moody contributed heavily to the first leg triumph with a maximum and a checkout of 77 whilst teammate Nick Miller fired an 18 dart leg in his individual 2-0 win.
Three mammoth checkouts lit up Division A's Weston Mill Oak Villa's 15-7 overall triumph over Division B's St Levans.
Kevin Evans 92 was slightly better than the 87 provided by the arm of John Sturdy in a 7-4 first leg that also contained a Keith Walton maximum.
Those checkouts were bettered by a 105 from Treve Sanders the leg two whilst John Sturdy contributed further to proceedings with a maximum in an 8-3 defeat for the Keyham side.
There was a 180 a piece for each side in Lugger's 10-1 first leg win over Fawn with Marc Mills effort cancelled out by Dave Clemson.
The Greenbank side from Division B faired much better in the home tie but still ended up on the wrong end of a 16-6 defeat as they fell 6-5 to the top league Devonport team.
