Burns Earns King Billy Shot At Double

The eight semi finalists produced some topsy-turvy contests in reaching a crescendo of the Plymouth Open League's two cup competitions.

Division B's St Johnston C got the better of Division A champions King Billy A in the first leg of the knockout cup despite a brilliant performance by Kieran Burns who added ten ton plusses.

Burns then led the charge for the Devonport side in the return match as he notched another thirteen tons in an 8-3 win to put his team into the final.

Burns was well supported by Lee Doncaster who threw eleven ton plusses whilst there was two huge out shots that proved to be crucial in deciding who would contest the final.

Harry McFerran's 96 kill was only bettered by James Ewing's 103 whilst Ewing added the only maximum of the match as well.

Despite ending on the wrong side of the 13-8 defeat overall, Carl Easterbrook put on quite a display in the second leg with ten tons.

St Levans might have won the first leg 7-4, but it was Victory who produced all of the magic moments with Neil White chalking up two maximums and Quinton Taylor adding an 80 checkout.

Victory did manage to fight back to 6-5 with the help of an 87 checkout and a 180 from Quinton Taylor, but it's St Levans who stand in the way of more King Billy glory after winning 12-10.

In the supplementary cup, Weston Mill Hotel belied their Division C status to take a 6-5 win from their first leg match against Cherry Tree B with Dan Brazier adding a maximum to an eleven ton haul.

Brazier then bagged himself two maximums in the second leg but saw his side miss out to the Pennycross side in the last tie as Cherry Tree B won 7-4 to claim a 12-10 success over the two legs.

Scott Harris' checkout of 96 in that match proved pivotal in what was a narrow victory for the Division A team who will face Division C runner's up St Johnston B for the trophy.

St Johnston B quickly got over being pipped to the Division C title with a 15-7 win over Division B's King Billy B with Brian Lumsdon providing a maximum in each of the 7-4 and 8-3 wins.
