Champions Reach Heaven's Gates

The worst kept secret in Plymouth darts has finally been confirmed after the Cornwall Gates won 10-1 against Ker St to clinch the Plymouth City Super League Division B title.

Simon Stevenson was once again instrumental in the team's victory with fifteen scores of a ton or more; a haul that included two maximums.

Stevenson also showed his ability in the finishing phase with first and second legs in 15 and 12 darts during a 3-0 success.

Mark Turner was also in good nick for the newly crowned champions after hearing three figure scores called no fewer than twelve times during the matchup between first and third.

Ten of those came in the individual phase, which drove the Devon stalwart to a 3-2 success in what turned out to be a much more competitive individual phase after a team game 5-0 whitewash for the St Budeaux outfit.

Matt Vosper was a third member of the title winning party to reach double figures for ton plusses on the night with ten overall.

Teammate Andy Malinowski checked 95 in a single visit to narrowly better a combination out shot of 90 by Fred Lamerton for the away side's only notable contribution of the matchup.

That result, coupled with the 6-5 demise of Clifton at St Levans mean Cornwall Gates now hold an insurmountable twenty-eight point lead with two to play.

Playing a massive part in the Keyham side's win was Tex Pearce who nailed thirteen tons to the dartboard and also won a crucial sixth and final singles rubber 3-0 with the scores tied at 5-5 going into that game.

Teammate Mark Hopkins added an 86 checkout, which was six points better than an 80 by Clifton's Kev Seal who also added a maximum to his night's work.

Seal's teammate Wayne Town showed his best form throughout the contest with ten tons for the team that will certainly finish as runner-up in the league thanks to a twenty-two point lead held over Ker St.

Gary Eaton's large contribution of twelve tons helped Victoria secure a local derby day win of 7-4 in their visit to Kings Arms A.

Teammate Aaron Wright was in good nick with a 180 and a 125 checkout that bettered a Dave Hickman 115 combination out shot for the defeated hosts.

Three maximums came in 6-5 win for Kings Tamerton at Duchy B as Danny Hoyle put the only three treble visit onto the scoreboard for the victors to join Tom Green and Liam Bradeley efforts for the defeated team.

Hoyle's teammate Paul Freeman also showed his class with the highest checkout of the match when finishing at the first time of asking from 100.

A 104 combination by Alex Truscott helped Cherry Tree B to a 7-4 win at fellow mid table dwellers Fawn B in a match that saw two maximums.

Paul Hoare and Tony Reid were the players to achieve that feat with the latter also adding a 14 dart leg to his evening's work in a 3-1 success.

A 120 checkout by Jacob Bentham couldn't arrest Hyde Park's slide to a narrow 6-5 home defeat versus Duchy A, for whom Rob Wills added a checkout of 110 in riposte.

In the top tier, Colebrook's Dave Hollow lit up Division A with fifteen ton plusses during an 8-3 for his visitors over Saltram.

Hollow was the only player to hear '180' called after throwing and also added a leg in 16 darts that proved to be crucial in a 3-2 individual win.

Hollow's long term sparing partner and teammate Nathan Langdon might've been quiet in the scoring stakes, but he still managed to pop up with a 120 finish that was the best of this particular match.

Marc Webber was dominant in the scoring phase with thirteen tons, but still found himself on the wrong side of the match result as Steampacket were downed by Cherry Tree A 7-4.

Webber's teammate George Beckett was also in good form after finishing on twelve ton plusses whilst the 180s were shared between the teams at one a piece.

Kayleigh Adams fired her team's three treble visit whilst Nick Miller's maximum was also joined by a fine 88 checkout for the biggest kill of the game.

Neil White's eleven ton haul was accented by a 164 three dart combination out shot that gave him the highest checkout of the match, game week, and twenty week old season so far.

That achievement came in an 8-3 win over Bluebird A that saw White's teammate Dave Matthews add eleven tons also whilst Quinton Taylor was a ten ton hitter for the Stonehouse outfit.

Despite ending on the wrong side of the match result, Glenn Halford and Tony Teal both completed ten ton personal hauls whilst Glenn Austin secured his team's only maximum.

White's exploits were not finished with the aforementioned achievements as he was also his team's only recipient of a '180' call during the game.

Matthews teamed with John Mann to produce a miraculous 16 dart 601 leg in the doubles that made White and his partner, Fred Goldsmith's decent 22 darter over the same format settle for being a bridesmaid.

The singles phase start with a White 3-1 win that withstood a leg in 17 by James Stoodley whilst Alfie Ford repeated Stoodley's feat during a 3-2 success.

The cherry on top of Simon Kelly's eleven ton haul in a 10-1 win for Kings Arms B at Victory was a 100 checkout that joined a Roger Backway 180 as the main highlights for the visitors from Oreston.

Paul Palmer's ten tons and 88 checkout led King Billy to an 8-3 win during their visit to Compton and the Bluebird B.

Dale Halford put up the most resistance to the visitors from Devonport with a ten ton haul of his own that included one of the two maximums hit by his team.

Vince Scallan was the other 180 hitter whilst Halford also teamed with Nige Bassett to produce a 22 dart 601 leg that was the best of that distance.

Palmer's 88 kill was the only leg won in the 2-1 defeat to Halford and Bassett which came before a singles game that contained two other notable checkouts.

Cal Strickson's 84 checkout was the only leg he won in a 3-1 defeat to Paddy Archibald who nailed a 78 single visit kill for one of the trio of legs he claimed.

Halford's 15 darter in a 3-2 defeat to Lee Doncaster was the best leg of 501 but it was an 18 darter by Doncaster that proved crucial in deciding the outcome.

Legends Lounge drew level at the top of the standings after a 10-1 win over Fawn A that contained maximums by Dan Brazier and Scott Wapshott to go alongside a 144 checkout by Scott Cook.
