Cherry Lucky To Have A Lee In Their Bonnet

Lee Hellings put up scores of a ton or more sixteen times during an 8-3 win for Cherry Tree C at the Octagon in the Steve Chapman 501 League.

Hellings tally was propped up by one of the two 180s his team scored as Steve Mills also struck a maximum for the visitors.

Mills effort was in a doubles affair that also produced a 601 leg in just 19 darts when he teamed with Dave Lee for that feat.

Nick Bryant was also prominent for the victors with eleven ton plusses overall whilst Alfie Ford top scored with ten three figure scores for the defeated hosts.

Hellings and Ford clashed in the individual phase and it was Hellings' legs in 14, 15 and 17 darts that drove home in 3-2 win.

Robbie Bisgrove and Bryant's clash was almost as equally entertaining as Bisgrove fired 16 and 18 darters in the two legs he won during a 3-2 defeat to Bryant who added a 16 darter of his own.

John Mann's thirteen ton plus haul came in an 11-0 win for Fawn B over Victory Hammers that saw the Greenbank outfit take all but one of the twenty-seven legs played.

Teammate Simon Washington was also in good nick with eleven tons whilst Luke Johnson fired ten three figure scores overall.

Washington and Mann's tallies were propped up by maximums whilst the other 180s in the match went to fellow Fawn player Lee Agar and Cleo Trelease who provided her team's only notable contribution.

Agar's 180 was joined by a 107 checkout that was best of the evening whilst his 15 darter in a 3-0 win was one of four excellent legs in the singles phase.

3-0 triumphs for Washington, Johnson and Andy Bates were all helped along to that conclusion by legs in 17 darts.

Scott Lawrey and Quinton Taylor's steady hands helped Victory A secure a 10-1 win over Fawn A that ended with the pair locked on eleven tons each.

Taylor's tally was ticked over to that total by the game's only maximum whilst Taylor's 3-0 singles win came thanks in part to 16 and 18 dart legs.

Cherry Tree B's lead was cut by a point to ten after a 10-1 win in the Cherry Tree derby match against their D team.

Paul Freeman dominated that matchup with ten tons and the highest checkout of the week; a fine 154 kill that battered 100 checkouts by teammates Phil Hoyle and Jason Pinkerton.

Hoyle added two of the four maximums fired by the title contenders with Pinkerton joining Mark Shears in nailing solitary three treble efforts.

The best leg of 501 put together by either side in the one sided contest came from the arm of Mike Whatley who checked in 16 darter during his 3-0 win.

Ten tons from Paul Tackle help Bar Mez get their season back on track in emphatic fashion with a 10-1 win over Ivybridge CC.

Jason Bowden fired the only maximum of the match for the defeated visitors whilst Tackle's teammate nailed a led in 16 darts during a 3-0 individual win.

Three maximums were shared 2-1 in favour of the Kings Arms against Tradesmans whilst the score line also went the way of the Oreston outfit 7-4.

Paul Palmer and Alec Turner contributed the home team's 180s whilst Lewis Byrne also managed one of his own in riposte.

Turner wasn't content with his maximum and followed this with a 136 checkout that was the only effort to better a 109 kill by Roger Bailey in this particular match.

Palmer's 3-0 singles win came with the help of a 16 darter whilst Bruce Harrison's leg in 17 saw him to a 3-0 success whilst Rob May's leg in 14 proved to be crucial in deciding a 3-2 triumph.

An 11-0 win for Cherry Tree A over Victory Fireballs saw a smattering of excellent play all contained to the individual phase.

Nathan Langdon fired a 17 darter in his 3-1 win whilst James Ewing heard 'game shot' called after throwing just 15 darts in one leg of his 3-0 success.

Dan Brazier also managed a leg in 15 during his 3-0 win and also added the only maximum of the game during the final singles rubber.

Checkouts of 125 and 114 by Mark Hatherley and Dan Wilkinson respectively contributed to an 8-3 win for Indian Inn at home against Duchy of Cornwall.

Hatherley (26.37) wasn't content with his only act being that mammoth checkout so he added a maximum and was a 3-0 singles winner with his best leg coming in 18 darts.

As is almost always the case, Bluebird's night was lit up by the magic of Jack McMinn who fired a 15 darter and 106 checkout during a 3-0 singles win that came in a 7-4 success for his team at Beacon Park.
