Clash Of The Titans in Superleague

The top two met in the Plymouth City Superleague when the Victory A visited the King Billy and it was the home side who secured the victory by the narrowest of margins with a 6-5 win.

After taking a 3-0 lead, the Billy Boyz never looked like losing and were as many as 6-2 up, despite being out-gunned by the Honicknowle side by forty-two three figure scores to fifty-one.

John Mann was the top individual scorer overall with thirteen ton plusses with stablemate Scott Wapshott scoring ten.

Of the fifty-one ploughed home by the Victory, only Quinton Taylor and Mark Gilbery hit double figures with a 121 finish from Marc Cresswell; the highest of the week.

Despite not being on top in the ton scoring stakes, the Devonport team did hit five maximums that proved the difference in the majority of games in which they were scored.

There was two for King Billy's Andy Bates with one each for teammates Paul Palmer, Scott Wapshott and Jason Pinkerton with Marc Cresswell replying for the defeated side.

Quinton Taylor (30.67) was the outstanding player in the individuals, winning his game with legs of 14,19,16 darts.

This result didn't do much to decide the destination of the title but it did give confidence to the Octagon's claim as they produced a fourth 11-0 from five played; this time Victory B were the victims.

Dave Pethick was the highest scoring player for the Stonehouse side with ten ton plusses, two of which being one maximum, and a 111 kill in his singles.

Pethick's teammates Fred Goldsmith and Neil White also added their names to the 180 column with Kieran Harris replying with one of his own for the beaten team to little avail.

It wasn't until the tenth game of the match before Victory B actually claimed their first successful dart at a double with a fine 106 checkout from Jason Goldsmith in one of three legs won on the night by his side.

Up to third now but someway off the pace are the other Victory side, the C team, after they defeated Kings Arms A 9-2.

Paul Goundry was on form for the home side with ten ton plusses, including the highest finish of the contest, a fine 110.

Teammates Steve Ebsworth and Paddy Archibald both added maximums in a pretty successful outing for the Honicknowle team.

Fourth and one of only three unbeaten teams in the division are the Steampacket who won 10-1 against the Hyde Park Social Club with George Beckett producing an outstanding individual performance.

Beckett, who was celebrating his birthday, produced legs of 14 and 15 darts, which was aided by an outshot of 118 and eleven three figure scores that included a maximum.

Matt Thompson also repeated Beckett's heroics with eleven tons and a maximum of his own and there was a 90 checkout from Kayleigh Adams on a fine night for the Devonport side.

Fifth placed Bluebird A defeated Raffles in what turned out to be a tight affair in the end, but as many as six players reached double figures in tons for the evening.

Top scorers Danny Bull and Glenn Halford notched twelve each and played out an epic battle with the spoils going to the Raffles player by the odd leg in five with Bull also hitting a maximum.

An almost identical scenario was also repeated by Alec Turner and James Stoodley in the final leg with both players reaching double figures and the former coming out on top on 3-2 again.

Tony Teal also plundered ten tons with one being an admirable three dart combination of 103 and Raffles Harry Bull was the sixth to reach double figures as the youngster remains one of four on eight from eight individually.

Glenn Austin notched two maximums in his 3-1 singles win, which put Bluebird A 7-1 up before a revival in the final three singles games by Raffles to make the score more respectable.

Kings B are now level on points with Colebrook Inn after defeating their rivals by a score of 6-5 with the Oreston side going 3-2 up and the singles being shared.

Dave Johns had a maximum for the home side with Lee Doncaster replying for the Plympton team and there was a fine finish from Steve Hiscox of 95; the largest of the match overall.

Saltram climbed the table after taking all points on offer away at the Victoria Inn with every player contributing something of note.

Reg Matthews showed a masterclass of scoring with eleven tons and was only outscored by teammate Simon Kelly who had twelve including a maximum.

Devon youth player Frankie Stout also added a 180 for Saltram and there was a fine exhibition of three figure finishing with Dave Algar, Damian Chalmers and Warren Gordon taking out 105, 109 and 118 respectively.

St Levans finally added to their win column on the league table for the first time in seven thanks to a 7-4 win at the Ker St.

Devon's Anna Johnson took out the highest finish of the match with a 76 and there was twelve ton plusses for Tex Pearce whilst Fred and Pete Lamerton had the only 180s of the game for the defeated Devonport side.

The Cherry Tree came away with a victory in the final game of the match against Fawn A after Rick Trinder won the last singles, including an impressive 100 finish.

The defeated side did score the only 180s of the match with Kenny Visick and Dan Bunney registering one each with the latter also finishing from 74 in his singles to aid him to a third success of the campaign individually.

Dale Halford was once again prominent for the Bluebird Bandits in their 9-2 win over the Fawn's neighbours, the Clifton.

Halford produced a 100 checkout, an 18 dart leg and eleven tons but was outscored by Wayne Town who claimed twelve three figure scores for the beaten side.
