Dodd No Rod For 'Billy Boyz' Back

Jayden Dodd's heroic sixteen ton tally wasn't enough to arrest Octagon's slide to an 8-3 defeat at the hands of King Billy in the Steve Chapman 501 League.

Andrew Cook led the way in the scoring stakes for the victorious Devonport outfit with a 180 on his way to twelve ton plusses whilst teammate Aaron Crocker added ten tons.

Antony Hayman produced pockets of his brilliance with a 120 checkout and a 15 dart leg during his 3-0 individual win.

Dodd's teammate Ralph Lancaster showed his undoubted class with a 15 darter of his own in a 3-2 turnaround to Crocker that also contained a maximum for the narrowly defeated man.

Early leaders Cherry Tree B continue to put the hammer down in their goal of wrestling dominance away from Fawn B over this format with another impressive 11-0 success coming against Bar Mez.

Mark Shears outshone all competitors with a fourteen ton tally whilst teammate Mike Whatley added ten scores of a ton or more.

Other moments of magic from the now eleven point clear title contenders came from a 102 checkout by Paul Gavican and a maximum by Jason Pinkerton.

Shears 18 darter in his 3-1 success was the best leg of 501 by the Pennycross side whilst Paul Tackle won his only leg in a 3-1 individual reversal in just 15 darts.

Andy Bates led Fawn B's charge back into second spot and the main rivals to Cherry Tree C with thirteen tons during a 10-1 Fawn derby win over their stablemates, the A team.

Bates was well supported by Fred Goldsmith who nailed a maximum on his way to ten tons overall, whilst the highest checkout was a 110 by teammate Luke Johnson.

Other 180s in the match came from the arm of John Mann for the victors and Mike Bassett who added the designated home side's only three treble visit.

Mann led the way in the singles with 15 and 16 dart legs during his 3-0 success whilst Bates checked in 17 during another 3-0 triumph in the very next game.

Three players added eleven ton plusses during a Cherry Tree derby match between the C and A team's with Dave Lee and Lewis Dare both firing that total for the C side to help them to a 6-5 win.

Dan Brazier was the only member of the A team to reach that undectet mark whilst the man he bettered 3-2 in the singles, Steve Mills, ended the night on ten tons overall.

Brazier's tally was accented by one of three maximums for the narrowly defeated team with teammates Luke Beard and Danny Perryman also striking.

A 3-0 win for Nick Miller was lit up by a 114 checkout that was the highest of the game whilst Lee's 17 darter in his 3-1 individual win gave the C team an unassailable 6-4 win with one to play.

Jack McMinn's eleven ton personal haul in an 8-3 triumph over Cherry Tree D contained two of the five maximums put onto the scoreboard by McMinn's Compton outfit.

McMinn's brace was joined by one of his own by sparing partner Alan Masters whilst Keith Lemon made up the quintet of three treble visits with a solitary effort.

McMinn also stole to the show at the business end of legs with a 95 checkout his best combination to go alongside an 18 dart leg of 501 in a 3-1 individual win.

Dave Johns heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than ten times in a 9-2 success for Kings Arms on the road at St Levans.

Paul Palmer produced the game's only maximum and followed that up with a 17 darter in his 3-1 individual success for the best leg of 501 in the match.

Three notable checkouts were plundered in the match as Matt Pearce's fine 96 outshot for the hosts had to settle for third best.

Alec Turner took both the top two spots in that competition with three dart combinations 110 and 126; the latter taking the league's prize for the highest checkout of the week.

Lewis Byrne heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than ten times to lead Tradesmans to a sixth win of the campaign with a solid 9-2 success at Ivybridge CC.

Scott Lawrey and Kelvin Rowe's scoring and finishing heroics forged a path for Victory A to better Duchy by an 11-0 score line.

The duo both hit 180s and checked 18 dart legs in their respective 3-0 and 3-1 individual successes with Rowe adding a 16 darter in his four legged affair.

Paul Goundry was the third player for the Honicknowle side to win a leg in six completed visits as he won in 18 during another 3-1 triumph.

A 114 checkout and an 18 dart leg came in the same 3-0 singles win for Chris Beale during Victory Fireballs 6-5 triumph over Indian Inn.

Scott Harris heard 'game shot' called at the first time asking from 82 in Victory Hammers 6-5 defeat to Beacon Park that saw Ashley Evens defeat Harris in a final leg shootout 3-2 in the final singles rubber to grab the spoils.
