Fawn B Crowned After Close Finish

An outrageous standard between third placed Victory A and Fawn B in the Steve Chapman 501 League left the destination of the title precariously poised with a 7-4 for the latter win allowing Victory C to draw level.

Andy Bates dominated the match with fifteen three figure scores overall but still found his team 3-1 down after four played to an inspired Honicknowle side.

Paddy Archibald lit up the match from the first "game on" call with ten tons and one of five maximums between the two sides; four of which came for the defeated team.

The other 180s came from Tony Tasker, Kelvin Rowe, Quinton Taylor with John Mann providing his team's sole maximum of the match.

Like every successful sports team, Fawn B rolled their sleeves up to come back from the adverse start with Bates efforts, and teammate Fred Goldsmith's fourteen tons leading the charge.

The singles phase started with the Greenbank side 3-2 down, but Dave Matthews drew level thanks to an 18 darter in a 3-2 success.

Goldsmith then won out 3-0 with another leg in 18 before before Mann (29.47) ran through his opponent 3-0 with legs in 14 and 18 darts.

Scott Lawrey threw everything he had at Lee Agar, including a 127 checkout, but it was Agar who picked up his team's fifth in a row, as well as a sixth and decisive point.

Bates then rounded off his night with a 3-0 success that was accented by legs of 18 and 17 darts; one of which was put away with a fine 121 finish.

Thirteen tons from Mark Shears led the Victory C's charge as they drew level with leaders Fawn B thanks to a 9-2 success over Victory D.

Shears was one of three 180 hitters in the match with teammates Billy Evans and Phil Hoyle claiming a solitary effort each.

Evans 18 darter in his 3-0 success was bettered by a leg in 17 by Kirsty Whiting-O'Brien who was narrowly defeated by Danny Allen 3-2.

Two players put thirteen tons onto the scoreboard in a topsy-turvy encounter between Octagon and Bar Mez that ended 6-5 to the former.

Lee Rodmell and Jayden Dodd were the two to achieve that feat; meeting each other in the singles phase which Rodmell took 3-2.

Rodmell's teammate Paul Tackle was also in good nick with a 3-1 success that featured a leg in 18 darts, which was only bettered once in the match.

Nik Dodd put up eleven three figure scores whilst Dave Pethick threw ten as well as a 13 darter in a 3-0 singles success.

Rodmell's 88 checkout was matched for the highest of the match by Ralph Lancaster who showed there's plenty of life in the old dog with a 3-1 win when the scores were tied at 5-5.

Twelve tons from Paul Palmer was the best provided by any of the twelve on show in a 9-2 win for Kings Arms over Firkin Doghouse.

Palmer rounded off that total with a 108 checkout and one of two 180s for the Oreston side; the other provided by teammate Warren Gordon.

Mark Hatherley notched eleven ton plusses for Indian Inn in as they signed off their season with a 9-2 success over Duchy Of Cornwall.

One of the two won by the Stonehouse side was put away with the help of an 86 checkout from Wayne Davis in a 3-1 success.

Dave Barton performed superbly for Fawn A in their 7-4 win over Victory Hammers with ten tons, a maximum and the highest checkout of 89.

He was beaten in the individual phase by Ryan Harris who put his opponent away with the help of his team's only 180.

A solitary point was required in the rearranged encounter between Fawn B and Victory D for the former to be crowned champions.

As it happens, this turned into a precession with John Mann top scoring with eleven tons on the way to an 11-0 win, which saw the league winners drop just one leg.

Mann paired with Jaden Whitting for a 601 leg in 19 with Whitting providing one of his team's two maximums in that particular leg.

Dave Matthews added the second for the team in a 3-0 that also featured winning legs in 17 and 18 darts whilst Lee Agar also added a leg in 17 during his 3-0 triumph.

Andy Bates took the least number of darts honours with a 15 darter in another 3-0 win whilst Fred Goldsmith was a 3-1 winner thanks in part to a checkout of 110.

Another barn stormer was played out in the final match of the season as King Billy overcame St Levans 6-5 with Antony Hayman and Mike Pearce both adding eleven tons for each side.

In a battle between two of Plymouth darting heavyweights, Pearce got the better of Hayman 3-1 with a 17 darter the best from the victor.

Hayman was in good form himself with his leg coming in 16 but Pearce, who added two maximums on the night to Hayman's one bested his former Devon teammate.

Hayman was joined in achieving a maximum by teammates Scott and Andrew Cook whilst Scott Cook finished one leg in a 3-1 win over Anna Johnson with a 109 checkout.

Scott Cook also added another in 18, which nullified the threat of Johnson who checked a leg in just 17 during the matchup.

Andrew Cook checked one leg in 16 during a 3-0 triumph whilst Tex Pearce won 3-0 with an 18 darter the best from the Devon man.
