Scott Lawrey produced a night of impeccable arrows to seal a very first Champion of Champions title, which snatched reigning champ, Simon Stevenson's chance of a three-peat at the final hurdle.

The charity event declared a total of £3291.24 for Spring Intensive Care in honour of my late wife, Sandie Cook, who spent over 100 days in the Penrose unit this calendar year before her recent passing on 31st October.

Lawrey looked the most likely to proceed from the bottom half of the draw after taking out three time John Mann, who had a 12 darter that ended in an 81 finish in the last 16, 3-1 turnaround.

ree

Stevenson (33.40) started his campaign for more immortality with a 3-0 success over debutant Ryan Fuller with legs in 12, 15 and 18 darts.

Danny Bull, who was looking to go one further than his 2016 semi, was a 3-1 winner over Mark Hatherley, whilst a solitary leg decided the five other last 16 stage games.

ree

Sean Taylor was Stevenson's next opponent after he edged Dave Lee 3-2, whilst Cameron O'Brien came through 3-2 despite some excellence from Scott Cook.

Cook nestled an 80 checkout and a 180 to make it 2-2 before bowing out, whilst Nick Bryant eventually got the better of AJ Brunton after some nervy finishing.

ree

Bryant would meet Jack McMinn in the final 8 after he got the better of former finalist, Mark Shears, by another 3-2 scoreline.

Frankie Stout was the final player to seal a 3-2 win, and he continued his good form in a 4-2 victory over Bull to make it to his first semi final.

ree

Stevenson would be waiting for Stout in the last four after his 4-2 win, whilst the bottom half saw 4-1 wins for Lawrey and Bryant over O'Brien and McMinn, respectively.

Stevenson continued to storm through the field with a 4-1 win over Stout before Lawrey got the better of Bryant in a 4-3 success to make his first final.

The ladies' competition was also played on the same night from round one to a finish, and Cleo Trelease stunned reigning champions Heather Toney with an accomplished 3-1 win in the first round.

Kirsty Whiting-O'Brien defeated her wife, Kay Whiting-O'Brien, 3-0, before Kayleigh Adams started her campaign with a 3-0 triumph over Zara Ebsworth.

ree

Chanelle Williams took her spot in the first semi final with a 3-0 win, and she would meet three-time back-to-back champion Jodie Hawton, who started her campaign for a fourth title with a 3-0 win over Lindsay Sargeant.

Whiting-O'Brien then booked her place in the last four after a 3-0 win over Michelle Lee before Trelease edged Adams 3-2.

ree

Hawton's 3-1 win over Williams contained an 82 checkout before Trelease got the better of Devon teammate Whiting-O'Brien by a 3-0 scoreline.

The second leg of the final saw Trelease (16.03) take out 72 at the first time of asking, and she built what looked like an unassailable 3-1 lead.

ree

However, great champions find a way, and Hawton (15.31) roared back and rode her luck as missed chances cost Trelease in a 4-3 win for the now four time Lorraine Booth Ladies Champion of Champions.

The opening of the main event saw Lawrey (28.39) fire himself into a 2-0 lead, thanks in part to a first leg 17 darter.

ree

Stevenson (28.58) got himself back into the contest with a 17 darter of his own before Lawrey notched a 14 dart leg to restore a two leg cushion.

The tide looked to be turning in favour of the reigning six time champion after his 180 helped make the scoreline 2-3.

ree

However, Lawrey showed what a class player he is with back-to-back 15 dart legs, with the one that sealed his glory coming with the help of a maximum.

The two players traded twenty-six ton plusses across the seven legs in what was a memorable final and an excellent evening of darts.
