Hellings Dwelling In Treble Bed
Lee Hellings produced a masterclass of scoring in Octagon A's 10-1 win over Bluebird B with fourteen three figure scores to his name in the Monday Premier League.
Hellings added a 16 dart leg to his evening in a game in which he would become the Stonehouse team's only loser after a 3-2 defeat to Dale Halford.
Halford had earlier in the match added his team's only maximum of the match whilst Jamie Roberts checked an 18 darter in his 3-2 loss with a 100 kill.
Octagon made a statement in the first tie of the match with a trio of Alfie Ford, Simon Washington and Jayden Dodd (32.04) teaming for a 25 dart 801 leg.
Dodd struck the first maximum of two for the hosts in that fine leg with Paul Palmer notching the other in a 3-2 singles win.
Dodd was also prominent throughout with twelve tons added to his name and Ford managed to reach double figures overall on an impressive start for the team.
The top two checkouts of the week's action, 120 and 126, from John Mann contributed a personal ton total of twelve in a 10-1 win for reigning champions Tradesmans over King Billy.
Mann (31.31) added one of two maximums for his side and won his individual game 3-0 thanks in part to legs in 15 and 12.
Mann also paired with Jaden Whitting and Shaun Dring in the first game of the night for a 25 dart 801 trebles leg which yielded a 32.04 average.
Mike O'Brien was the other 180 hitter for the title holders and reached eleven tons overall whilst Whitting and Dring also both added ten each to a mammoth ton total.
Whitting's 3-2 singles win featured a 15 dart leg whilst O'Brien managed an 18 darter in his 3-1 triumph.
Andy Bates was a fifth player for the title holders to reach ten tons or more during the contest with the defeated Devonport team's only point of the tie coming from the hand of Andrew Cook.
Cook notched ten tons and a leg in 18 darts during in his 3-0 individual triumph to become his team's only winner of the evening.
Cook's teammate Kev Lofthouse also produced a moment of magic with his team's only maximum of the contest.
Paul Goundry top scored with eleven ton plusses as Victory B got their season up and running with a 92 win over Cherry Tree A.
Goundry's teammates Paddy Archibald and Paul Gavican both chalked up double figures in three figure scores with one of those from Gavican being the highest checkout of the match; a fine 120 three dart combo.
Goundry also provided the best leg of the contest with a 16 darter whilst Scott Cook won his game 3-0 thanks to legs of 17 and 18 darts.
Anthony Pearn was also prominent for the Honicknowle side with a leg in 18 in his 3-1 win in the individual phase of play.
Matt Nicholson and Nick Coles were the shining lights for the defeated Pennycross side with a maximum and a 115 checkout respectively.
Alec Turner was the highest scoring player on debut for his new team, Indian Inn, with eleven tons in their 9-2 success over newcomers Brewery Tap.
Turner was one of three players to notch maximums in the contest with the others coming from Sean Taylor and Nick Wills for the defeated Stonehouse team.
Turner's 16 dart leg in his 3-0 win usurped a 17 darter from Harry Bull in his triumph by the same scoreline whilst Taylor was the only individual winner for his team by a scoreline of 3-1 thanks in part to a leg in 18.
Twelve tons for Glenn Halford was one of many highlights in an 8-3 win for the Bluebird C over Union Inn in which Halford overcame Dave Hollow 3-1 who himself hit eleven tons overall.
Halford's 17 dart leg in that tie was only bettered in the match by Glenn Austin's 15 darter in a 3-0 win with Austin also reaching double figures in tons overall.
Earlier on in the contest, Hollow had paired with Dan Giles (33.39) to win a doubles game 2-1 that saw the pair notch a brilliant 18 dart 601 leg which was finished by Hollow in three from 76.
Bluebird A's Alan Masters helped himself to ten ton plusses but could not stop his team ending on the wrong side of a 6-5 defeat to Octagon B.
Masters superb individual form saw him also win a leg in 17 on his way to a 3-1 singles success which proved to be nothing more than a consolation for his team.
Current Plymouth Open League champions made the step up from that league to the Monday Premier but found it tough going in their first outing; losing 7-4 to the Victory A.
Despite the defeat, it was Phil Taylor and Mel Sharpe who produced the main moments of magic as the pair notched a maximum a piece.
