Life Of O'Brien: Not The Messiah, Just A Good Darts Player!

Mike O'Brien turned on the after burners as he produced the best performance in recent history of the Plymouth & District Friday Darts League during Tradesmans A's 11-2 win over Queen & Constitution.

O'Brien added no fewer than seventeen tons to the scoreboard; one of which was his team's only maximum of the evening.

O'Brien (32.29) then went on to take his 1001 individual game in just 31 darts for the lowest of the week and third shortest of the season so far.

A welcomed return to action for much loved Stew Roberts proved a roaring success story as he added an 80 checkout for the Stonehouse team whilst Cliff Escott and Gareth Hockings added 180s for the defeated team.

The immovable and dominant Richard Lynch (28.60) continued his dominance at this level of darts with his thirteenth win from fourteen starts that was won in just 35 darts.

Individual leader Lynch added the match's only maximum in his Kings Tamerton's 7-6 win over Ker St B in what turned out to be the winning point which gave the home team an unassailable 7-5 lead.

Three 180s from Victory Inn helped them take all points on offer against Tradesmans B in a 13-0 whitewash win that gives them the overall lead in the standings.

Glyn Wells, Kevin Evans and Kieran Burns all struck for the home team whilst Burns (27.05) put something like his best on the scoreboard with a 1001 leg in 37 darts.

Mainstone secured a ninth win of a successful campaign so far with a 9-4 win at Pennycross who despite the result, had Lee Gilliard in good form with a fine 113 checkout.

Reigning individual champion Mark Hatherley (26.34) won his singles game in 38 darts during a 7-6 win for Indian Inn over Octagon B.

In what turned out to be a topsy-turvy game, Robbie Aitken produced the highest checkout of the week with a fine 124 to make it 6-6 before Louis Yates won the final tie of the contest to give his team the victory.

Queens Arms produced a very spirited performance as they took a 6-3 lead against King Billy who then kicked into gear to take four singles in a row that culminated in a Ryan Ring last leg victory for a 7-6 win.

The battle of the bottom two ended with a 7-6 Lugger victory over Devonport rivals Ker St A who themselves held leads of 2-0, 4-3 and 6-4 in the contest.

The Lugger then fought back by taking the final three games of the evening as Nicola Heffron stole the spoils for her team with a last leg deciding win for her team's first win of the campaign.

Dave Meyrick added the only maximum but finished on the wrong end of a 10-3 loss as Grenville fell at home to Brewery Tap who sit second with eleven wins from thirteen.
