However, Fred Goldsmith's (25.05) 3-0 win came with one leg in 16 to defeat the leading individual player, Simon Kelly, who heard 'game, shot and the match' called for the very first time this season against him.

Despite that disappointment, Kelly ended his night on ten tons and still joint top of the individuals as his main rival, George Beckett, also suffered his first defeat of the campaign in Steampacket's 9-2 defeat at King Billy.

Both players in that tie added 180s to their impressive ton tallies whilst Beckett fired the highest of the three ton plus finishes in the overall match.

Beckett's 124 checkout bettered efforts of 104 and 114 by Hayman's teammates Mark Yeoman and Lee Rodmell respectively.

Nathan Langdon led the way in the scoring phase for the defeated team with thirteen whilst teammate and sparing partner, Dave Hollows, added ten tons to the scoreboard.

Other notable efforts came from Scott Wapshott's 109 checkout, as well as both Mark Shears and Darren Smith who put three treble visits onto the scoreboard once each.

Glenn Austin was at the top of his game in Bluebird A's 8-3 win over Cherry Tree A with scores of a ton or more falling his way no fewer than twelve times.

Austin's tally was propped up by one of the three maximums his team scored on the night as Glenn Halford and Alan Masters both fired.

That Masters effort left him on ten tons overall whilst Dave Lee top scored for the defeated home side with ten tons and Nick Miller added a 92 checkout as the highlight of his night's work.

Alec Turner produced the goods for Indian Inn with ten tons in a 9-2 home win against Victory Inn who had Chris Beale contributing the highest checkout of 130 that was the best of the week across all fixtures.
