Matthews Has Cutting Reg

Reg Matthews fired the top finish of 164 in Kings Arms first outing of the Steve Chapman 501 League as his team came away with a 7-4 win.

Not content with just the big finish, Matthews also put the game's only maximum onto the scoreboard whilst there was good legs of 16 and 18 darts for Tony Teal and Dave Johns respectively.

Jayden Dodd's twelve ton haul led Octagon to a first victory of the season in a 6-5 game week one triumph over King Billy.

Dodd (25.91) was also the most prominent individual player for his team with a 3-0 win that contained a leg in 17.

Antony Hayman's eleven ton riposte was accented by three of the six maximums in the match, as well as an out shot of 120.

That beat a 108 from Robbie Bisgrove in a 3-1 defeat against Hayman that saw the former Devon and Cornwall man plough in the game's best leg; a 15 darter.

Hayman's teammates Zak Burden and Andrew Cook added 180s number five and six with Dave Pethick firing his team's only three treble visit.

Cook's maximum was one of eleven three figure visits to the board personally in a match that was won on the very last leg as Alfie Ford bagged the 6-5 win with a 3-2 success.

Reigning champions Fawn B opened up the defence of their title with a convincing 11-0 win over Victory Hammers.

Lee Agar and John Mann shared the honour of heaviest scorer for the title favourites as they both put up twelve scores of a ton or more.

Agar's total was rounded off by a 132 three drat combination out shot that claimed the highest of the match whilst Andy Bates reached ten tons personally.

Agar's 3-1 win was clinched with the help of a 17 darter whilst Mann checked legs in 18 and 14 darts during a 3-0 triumph.

Quinton Taylor top scored with eleven tons in an 8-3 opening day win for Victory A over newly formed Cherry Tree.

Taylor was well supported by Kelvin Rowe and Tony Tasker who both added ten tons to the party whilst Taylor got the better of Dan Brazier 3-1 who also put eleven tons on the board.

Brazier's only leg in that tie came with a 100 checkout, which was beaten no fewer than two times in the match overall.

Taylor threw the top checkout of 113, which narrowly beat a 112 from teammate Paul Goundry earlier in the match.

Goundry (28.90) was scintillating in the individual phase also with a 3-0 win helped along by legs in 15 and 16 darts.

Goundry and opponent James Ewing fired in 180s in that clash with the other maximums coming from Taylor, Brazier and Scott Lawrey.

Not far behind Goundry was Kelvin Rowe (27.83) who bagged legs in 16 and 18 darts on his way to another 3-0 triumph for his team.

A 10-1 win for last season's runners-up, Victory C, over Fawn A saw four individual moments of magic from a quartet of their players.

Paul Gavican and Mark Shears both heard 180 called once each after their throws whilst Billy Evans 102 checkout was only bettered by a 106 from Jason Pinkerton.

An 8-3 win for Bar Mez in their trip to Duchy saw Scott Town bag the only maximum and teammate Paul Tackle check a leg with a 73 out shot.
