St Johnston A Close On The Summit

Title favourites St Johnston A have closed to within nine points of the leaders with two games in hand after they took all available points on offer in their trip to bottom side Ker St.


Glyn Wells and Kieran Burns were once again the anchormen for the Keyham side with both registering eleven ton plusses.


Wells (31.28) 32 dart leg was the second lowest recorded by any player in the league this season but was beaten to the least number of darts prize by a stunning 28 dart leg by Burns.



Burns (35.75) actually started the leg in fairly mediocre fashion with just 41 scored from the first visit to the board.


After this however, the youngster was at his blistering best with four two treble 140 visits in a row followed by a maximum; racking up a world class 781 in just six throws.


The final 220 points were batted away in just ten darts, which set a low number of darts for the season that will be very difficult for anybody to beat.


The Tradesman's A who're current custodians of top spot in the division won well at home to the Steampacket by a 9-4 scoreline.


After winning all of the team games, there was somewhat of a mini collapse from the Stonehouse side.


A maximum for Steampacket's Phil Dare and Richard Whylee's 100 finished helped the Devonport side to four out of the six individual games.


Three points back from second placed St Johnston A are the Octagon who won by the odd leg in thirteen at home to the Pennycross.


Cornwall player Kyle Willmott (25.67) won his individuals in 39 darts for the Pennycross with Ryan Stubbs finishing from a credible 114 for the Octagon.


This topsy-turvy affair was close throughout with the only two point lead coming from the two point team game win for the Octagon before Simon Washington stepped up to give the Stonehouse side the victory in the final singles game.



King Billy's title chances were dented after they only managed a success by the narrowest of margins away at second bottom Kings Tamerton, winning 7-6.


Matt Abbott was the most prominent player for the Billy Boyz with an 83 finish and ten ton plusses on the night.


Queens Arms took advantage of Trademans B's inactivity by leapfrogging them in the table with another 7-6 success; this one over The Lugger.


Steve Harris made it seven from eight starts to join Trademans' Paul Bowen at the top of the individuals having played a game more.



Mark Hatherley, who had eleven tons on the night, joins the pair at the top of the singles chart with seven from seven.


However, his Indian side finished on the wrong end of an 8-5 score line against Mainstone, who had Dave Jones showing his class with a maximum during the contest.


Also winning 8-5 were the Grenville for their second triumph of the season over the St Johnston B.


Despite the result, two St Johnston players took the individual plaudits with Sean Taylor notching a maximum and Dan Cole (30.33) winning his singles in 33 with a fine 115 checkout; the highest of the week.
