Steve Chapman 501 League Title Race Nears Conclusion

The Steve Chapman 501 League title race swung in the direction of the Fawn B as they claimed an 11-0 win over Duchy on the very same night their rivals dropped points.

The Greenbank side won all twenty-six legs on offer with John Mann top scoring with fourteen ton plusses including one of three 180s for the team.

Mann (26.37) produced a steady display in his 3-0 singles win whilst teammates were more explosive in their successes by the same score line.

Agar netted a brace of 180s on his way to an 11 darter in a 3-0 win whilst Fred Goldsmith rounded off a 15 darter with a fine 151 checkout that was the highest in the league during the game week.

Goldsmith reached twelve tons overall whilst Dave Matthews also showed his undoubted class with an 18 darter in another 3-0 win.

That win leaves Fawn B an unassailable nine points ahead of Victory C who put on quite a show with Octagon in a 7-4 success for the former that saw one hundred and eighteen ton plusses.

The forefront ton hitter in the match was Billy Evans who heard a ton or more called no fewer than fourteen times whilst throwing.

Next best was Octagon's Jayden Dodd with thirteen that culminated during a 3-2 loss to Evans in the individual phase of play.

Evans got the better of his opponent with Evans' legs of 18 and 16 replied to with an 18 darter from Dodd in the five leg thriller.

Evans 101 checkout in that contest became crucial in the outcome of that tie but wasn't the highest of the match as that finish was bettered by a 112 from teammate Jason Pinkerton.

Mark Shears was also prominent for the Honicknowle team with twelve tons whilst three of his teammates also reached ten tons each.

Danny Allen's ten ton haul was rounded off in a 3-1 singles win that saw him check a leg in 14 whilst Paul Gavican added the team's only maximum to his double figure tally.

Gavican got the better of Ralph Lancaster 3-1 with the sole leg won by the veteran being put away in just 16 darts; a feat matched by Gavican in one of the three he claimed.

Phil Hoyle was the fifth and final Victory player to reach the milestone; doing so in a 3-1 win over Dave Pethick who also added ten tons to his evening's work.

Pethick was one of two 180 hitters in the match for the defeated team as his single effort joined a brace of 180s from Alfie Ford.

Eight maximums were shared between the two teams as King Billy won a hard fought battle between them and Kings Arms 8-3.

Much like the result of the match, the Devonport side led the way in the 180 scoring as well with five to the Oreston teams three.

Foremost of which was Antony Hayman (33.47) who threw two in a remarkable 3-0 win that saw him check legs in 11 and 12 darts against the formidable Dave Johns who put a 180 onto the scoreboard in his very first outing.

Hayman also paired with Andrew Cook (30.05) to put away a 601 doubles game 2-0 in just 19 and 21 darts with Cook adding his 180 in that match.

Hayman's 96 checkout on an extraordinary evening personally was also the best thrown between all twelve players on display.

Cook himself went on to add nine more tons to his evening's work; getting the better of Paul Palmer who notched a 180 in the 3-0 loss.

Another 180 hitter for the soon to be deposed champions was Scott Wapshott who did so in a 3-0 singles win that saw him also finish one leg in 15.

Reece Day top scored with twelve tons for the victors and nailed a 16 darter in a 3-1 loss to Dave Algar who replied with one of his own.

That twelve ton feat was matched by Simon Washington who ended his evening in a 3-1 defeat to Scott Cook who added 180 number five for his team in a 3-1 success.

The visitors had Warren Gordon to thank for their third maximum of the night as he nailed one in a doubles win that helped the team put their very first point of the evening onto the board.

Mike Pearce lit up St Levans 7-4 win at Fawn A with twelve tons; one of which claimed the high checkout honours for the match as he checked 121 in his 3-0 singles win.

Harry MacGregor supported Pearce well with ten tons overall whilst Tex Pearce helped himself to three maximums on the night.

Anna Johnson added a fourth 180 for her team and won her singles 3-1 with the help of a leg in 18 darts to cap an impressive personal performance, and for the team.

Dan Wilkinson top scored for Indian Inn with eleven tons but found himself on the wrong end of an 8-3 score line as the Stoke village team were bested by Victory Hammers.

Wilkinson's teammate Mark Hatherley was also in fine fettle as he put a 180 onto the scoreboard and produced two class checkouts; a 95 and 108.

Those were the only finishes to beat Cleo Trelease's 92 kill whilst teammate Tony Conn threw the team's only maximum in the win.

Kelvin Rowe's ten ton haul led Victory A to a 9-2 success in their visit to Bar Mez with Rowe adding one of three maximums in the match to that impressive total.

Rowe was one of the two unfortunate losers in the individual phase, but the leg he won in Paul Tackle's 3-1 win was claimed in 14 darts.

Paul Goundry was also in good form with a 15 darter in his 3-0 win whilst Quinton Taylor joined Rowe in nailing a 180 in the good win.

Lee Rodmell was the standout performer for the defeated team as he reached ten tons, including a 180, and won his singles 3-1 with the help of a 14 dart leg.

Highlights of an 8-3 win for Victory D in their visit to Firkin Scholar came from a 120 checkout from Maria O'Brien and a 180 for Sarah Brown.
