The Beacon Was Lit And White Answered

Beacon Park are the new Plymouth Open League Division A champions after an 8-3 win over their closest rivals Victory, who could've pipped the title winners to the crown had the result been reversed.

The league was won after the newly crowned champs won four of the five team games and Graham White put the cherry on top of that result with a 128 checkout in his 2-0 singles win.

That checkout bettered an 85 by Mark Williams in a 2-1 individual loss, which was one of four reversals in the final six ties.

A maximum each by Marc Mills, Simon Wilbraham and Richard Wheatley lit up Lugger A's 7-4 triumph over Weston Mill.

Wheatley added an 83 checkout to his evening's work as his team finished a distant but respectable third in the Division A standings.

180s by Kev Hulcoop and John Nixon provided the catalyst for St Johnston A to triumph 8-3 over Mainstone B who had Dan Capel firing the third maximum of the game.

Tyler Borthwick put up the only maximum of a 6-5 win for St Johnston B at Ker St C that saw Harley Gillan win the match with a 2-0 singles win when last on with the scores tied at 5-5.

A 14 darter by Nick Miller came in Cherry Tree B's 7-4 defeat at the hands of Weston Mill Oak Villa who had Matt Abbott checking 113 in a three dart combination.

In Division B, Mark Sargeant added an 18 darter in his 2-0 win during Fawn's 7-4 defeat against Prince Maurice FC; the newly formed teams finishing fourth and fifth respectively in their first campaign.

The already crowned second tier champions, Legends Lounge, signed off their stellar campaign with a 10-1 win over Falstaff B.

Chris Hooper showed his class for the defeated Southway outfit with a fine leg in 16 darts during his 2-0 individual triumph whilst the King Billy derby ended in a 6-5 win for the A team over their B side.

Dan Johnson checked 100 in a single visit and found a maximum for Cherry Tree A as they claimed a sixth win of the campaign in a 6-5 success over Duchy.

Nicola Heffron was the hero in the final leg of the match with the scores tied at 5-5 and 1-1 during the last singles rubber whilst Stephen Heffron checked 80 in a single visit.

A Des Dugdale 126 outshot and a maximum by Tom Kevern couldn't stop third placed Pennycross from slipping to a final day 7-4 defeat against Ker St C, for whom Deb Trethowan added a 91 checkout.

Lugger B signed off their season with a 7-4 win at St Levans that contained a Luke Collins 180 whilst Graham Couch's 98 checkout was the best moment of Mainstone A's 9-2 win over Ker St D.
