Victor/Victoria Clash Certainly No Comedy
Victory A's 7-4 success over Victoria in the Plymouth City Super League brought about ninety-four three figure scores of a ton or more in what was an enthralling clash for the neutrals.
Danny Allen led the charge for the victorious side with twelve ton plusses overall; a total that was accented by one of four maximums between the sides.
Phil Walsh put his team's only maximum onto the scoreboard during a doubles defeat with the other two from Victory's Tom James and Paul Gavican coming in the singles phase.
Allen also hit his 180 during a 3-0 singles win that saw two of the three legs won buried in an emphatic 16 and 12 darts.
Gavican also helped himself to a leg in 16 during a 3-2 defeat that was one of eight games over the evening to be decided by a single leg.
Tied with Allen for ton plusses was teammate Mark Shears as he also reached twelve for the evening whilst Cameron Pickard enjoyed his first outing of the season with ten tons.
Simon Stevenson's majestic form continued as he once again shone for the Fawn A with fourteen three figure scores.
However, this mammoth haul couldn't stop the Greenbank side from slipping to an 8-3 defeat to Steampacket who had Neal Hotchkiss in good nick.
Hotchkiss not only contributed his team's only maximum of the evening but also added the highest checkout with a 98 in a single visit to the board.
The other maximums all came from Fawn players as Mark Hempsall's effort was added to by Bill Scannell whilst their teammate Dave Roberts helped himself to a 17 darter in a 3-1 singles defeat.
Leaders Octagon dropped just a single leg in their 11-0 whitewash of Hyde Park in which John Mann top scored with twelve ton plusses.
Hellings admirably supported his teammate with ten tons in a match that saw the Stonehouse side break the 25+ average mark no fewer than three times.
Mann teamed with Dave Matthews and Alfie Ford (27.81) to put their 1001 trebles to bed in 36 before Neil White, Fred Goldsmith and Hellings (25.67) won the second trebles in 39.
The barrage from the relentless title favourites continued in the singles phase as Mann (26.84) shone in his 3-0 success with the help of 17 and 18 dart legs.
This was after Ford won his singles 3-0; finishing the tie with a 138 checkout which took the high checkout honours in the match and across all fixtures in the league.
That effort beat another ton plus finish with Matthews checking 103 in three during his 3-0 success before Goldsmith rounded off the evening with a 3-1 success that was helped along by a leg in 18.
Glenn Halford led the way for Bluebird A with eleven tons during a narrow 6-5 away success for his team at Cherry Tree.
The Compton side trailed 3-1 and 5-3 before mounting a comeback that started with James Stoodley checking a leg in 18 during his 3-1 win.
Halford rounded off his ton plus haul in a 3-2 success before teammate Lee Roberts held his nerve with the scores tied at 5-5 to take the honours for his team in a last leg deciding 3-2 win.
Roberts had to battle hard for his win as his worthy adversary John Greatrex threw a 180 and the game's highest finish of 136 during the defeat.
King Billy continue to try to cling onto the coat tails of the leaders; producing a fine performance in a 10-1 success at the Clifton.
Antony Hayman led the charge with eleven tons and two of the five maximums hit during a bumper evening of heavy scoring.
Hayman's maximums were joined by efforts from teammates Paul Goundry and Mark Yeoman whilst Andy Pengelly fired one back for the defeated Greenbank side.
Pengelly also nailed a 72 checkout that was bettered by Paul Palmer's 128 combination out shot that helped him towards a ten ton haul.
A finish also beaten by Palmer was a 100 checkout from Goundry whilst the singles phase there was two standout performances.
Legs of 16 and 18 darts were the cherry on top of a 3-1 win for Palmer whilst Hayman's 3-0 success was steered in that direction with 15 and 17 darters.
Lewis Dare led the way for Victory B in their 9-2 derby success over Victory C with his nine tons rounded up to ten by one of four maximums in the match.
Other 180s in the match came from Dare's teammates Kelvin Rowe and Lee Hunter whilst Alex Truscott added a sole effort for the defeated side.
Dare (30.06) stunned his opponent with a 3-0 singles win that was put away in just seventeen visits with legs of 18 and 17 added to by a 15 darter; one of which finish with a 98 checkout.
An 8-3 win for Saltram over Ker St saw a player from each side reach ten tons as Simon Kelly fired his team to victory whilst Ian Heggie performed well despite ending on the wrong side of the defeat.
Heggie's teammate Roger Bailey also produced a moment of magic during the match with the only 180 of the contest in a 3-1 singles loss.
A 180 from Mark Hopkins and a 180 from Danny Bull briefly lit up Raffles 8-3 success over St Levans whilst Fawn B continued their rich vein of form with an 8-3 success in their visit to Half Moon.
A legendary figure of the Plymouth darting scene, Andy Malinowski, further proved that class is permanent as he added a maximum to the scoreboard in Kings Arms B's 7-4 win away at Bluebird B.
Malinowski's teammate Roger Backway was also in fine fettle with a 105 checkout that took the game's high finish honours; also helping him to a 3-2 singles win.
Mark Sargeant hit a crucial 18 darter in a 3-2 success over Kevin Marshall who checked one of the two he won with a 90 finish.
Duchy of Cornwall may count themselves unlucky to fall to an 11-0 defeat to Colebrook that saw seven of the elven decided by a single leg.
