Victory Title Hopes All But Gone

Glenn Halford produced a masterclass of scoring and finishing to further dent the slim chances of Victory A mounting a serious title challenge in the Plymouth City Superleague.

Halford ploughed sixteen ton plusses, which included a brace of maximums and a 130 high finish of the contest, to aid his Bluebird A's cause in which they eventually went down 6-5.

Halford and his individuals opponent Quinton Taylor played out a classic with Taylor firing an 18 darter, which was answered by a leg in 15 by Halford who eventually ran out a 3-2 winner.

Kelvin Rowe produced the lowest number of darts with a fine 14 dart leg, which was also followed up with a 17 darter in a 3-0 singles win.

Andy Waters was Victory's top scorer in the contest with twelve ton plusses with teammates Mark Gilbery and Marc Cresswell also adding their name to the 180 column.

A fifth 180 of the contest was notched by the Compton side's Lee Roberts who will walk away much the happier side from their evening.

King Billy continued their dominance of the league with a fine 9-2 win over the Saltram, which put them four clear with an extra game still to play.

Antony Hayman (34.11) was in fine fettle with three maximums on the night that contributed to eleven ton plusses for him personally; all of which helped him rack up two legs of 13 and an 18 darter to boot.

Billy Evans (30.20) outscored teammate Hayman with twelve three figure scores and a maximum that enabled him to take legs in 18 and 16 in a 3-1 win over Reg Matthews.

The leg Matthews won was in 15 darts, which was the best produced by the Lipson side and stablemate Simon Kelly also chalked up a 98 checkout and a maximum of his own.

The main highlight for Saltram came from Dave Algar's (26.37) remarkable 3- 0 win over individual leader Andy Bates.

Algar notched a 180 and a 108 high finish on way to two legs of 18 darts to give Bates his first defeat of the season.

The two defeated King Billy men on the night, Paul Palmer and Andy Bates, did both make it to double figures in ton plusses in spite of a disappointment in the individual phase.

No fewer than four players put two maximums on the scoreboard with nine being hit in total as Raffles won 8-3 against local rivals Clifton Inn.

Danny and Harry Bull joined teammate Tony Reid and Clifton's Neil Holder in the feat, with Andy Pengelly putting another on the board in a fabulous contest.

Alec Turner and Harry Bull both top scored for the Mutley team with twelve tons with teammate Danny Bull ploughing ten along with Clifton's Ross Blake who achieved the same feat.

Turner also produced the highest checkout of the match with a fine 112 whilst Bull Jnr finished a fine 17 darter in his 3-0 individual success.

Tex Pearce fired twelve ton plusses in his St Levans side's 9-2 win at Fawn A as teammates Shaun Dring and Anna Johnson also reached double figures.

Pearce added a 17 and 14 dart leg to his haul and was one of three players to take out three figure outshots with a fine 101 finish in a 3-0 win.

Dring took out the highest finish of the contest with a 127 kill whilst the Greenbank side's Dave Clemson added a brace of 180s and a 111 checkout in a 3-1 win over the former.

Bluebird Bandits' won well at Kings Arms B by an 8-3 scoreline thanks in part to a decent performance by Dale Halford who hit twelve three figure scores along the way.

The Oreston team's Martyn Down hit their only maximum as Jon Parsons replied with one of his own for the Compton side.

Another Parsons' moment of magic came in the form of a 111 outshot, which was only beaten by teammate Dan Hurley's 118 kill.

Fawn B look like they're finding their feet in their debut Superleague campaign after their 9-2 away win at Victory B enabled them to climb a place.

Mark Sargeant took out the highest finish of the match with a 79 kill and teammate Mike Bassett finished a leg in 17.

Despite the defeat, the Honicknowle side's Richard Wheatley showed more of the current good form he's in with a 17 darter of his own in his 3-1 singles win and a game high ten ton plusses.

Wheatley also ploughed in the only maximum of the game in a good individual performance amongst a disappointing night for his team.

Two ton plus finishes of 100 and a week high 155 from Dave Lee, which contributed to eleven ton plusses, wasn't enough for Cherry Tree who went down 7-4 at home to Colebrook Inn.

Despite Lee's heroic's, Steve Hiscox managed to defeat Lee by a 3-2 scoreline thanks to some of an eleven ton personal haul on the night.

There was a 180 for each team with Scott Opie securing one for the home side with Mick Harding replying in kind for the victors.

The most likely team to put up any challenge to King Billy's dominance of the league are Octagon who produced another 11-0 victory, this time over bottom side Hyde Park.

Neil White was top scorer with ten ton plusses and also shared the lowest number of darts with Alfie Ford as the pair both hit 17 darters.

Fred Goldsmith and Tony Perkins both hit 180s and teammate Lee Hellings knocked in a 105 finish, which was the highest of the match.

Mick Bingham's 180 and a 97 checkout from Gary Eaton helped Victoria win 7-4 at Ker Street whilst Steampacket made it twelve wins from thirteen starts with a 6-5 success over a depleted Kings Arms A.

The most notable contributions from the Oreston side were 74 finishes from Pete Down and Mike Sant respectively.

Mike Connell hit a 120 finish for the winners, whilst teammate George Beckett had a leg in 18 darts for the Devonport side.
