Wayne Goes To Town In New Super League Era

The newly formed two tier Plymouth City Super League started with players from Division B outscoring their A section counterparts.

Joint top scorer across both divisions Wayne Town who struck sixteen three figure scores in a 9-2 win for B section Clifton over their local Greenbank rivals, Fawn B.

Town's teammates Cory Jonas and Ross Blake also showed glimpses of magic with the game's only maximum and a 17 dart leg respectively.

Despite ending the wrong side of the heavy defeat, Mike Bassett still managed to put ten tons onto the scoreboard whilst teammate Steve Dobson threw a high checkout of 115.

The team with the standout roster in the B league, Cornwall Gates, started their journey with an emphatic 10-1 win over Duchy of Cornwall A.

Simon Stevenson fired sixteen ton plusses including three of the six maximums his team put onto the scoreboard.

Stevenson's trio of 180s was joined by a brace from Devon's seventh highest male appearance maker Mark Turner whilst Andy Malinowski added a solitary effort on his way to eleven three figure scores personally.

Lewis Dare was in fine fettle with a ten ton haul whilst Dan Bunney's 88 checkout was the best mustered by all competitors on display in the demolition job.

The other 10-1 winners in the first game week, Cherry Tree B, had Shaun Dring in decent nick as he put eleven tons onto the scoreboard in the victory over Duchy B.

Dring wasn't the only player for the visitors from Pennycross to shine as Tony Reid heard scores of a ton or more called no fewer than ten times.

Mike Whatley's ten ton haul, that included the game's only maximum, couldn't arrest Kings Tamerton's slide to a 6-5 defeat away at Ker St.

Whatley's teammate Gareth Harper fired a 100 checkout that settled for second best in the match as Paul Freeman checked 110 in a single visit.

After a topsy turvy affair in which the lead changed hands five times, Roger Bailey won the final tie of the contest 3-0 with the scores locked at 5-5 to give the Devonport side a win.

Mike Sant's two maximums lit up Kings Arms A's 6-5 win at Hyde Park, for whom Bob Woods checked 80 at the first time of asking.

Gary Eaton's 124 checkout during a 7-4 win for Victoria at St Levans was the highest of all fixtures played in the B section.

In the A league, champions Octagon had new signing Quinton Taylor in fine form with fifteen three figure scores during an 8-3 win over Bluebird B.

Both Lee Hellings and Dave Matthews added twelve tons each to that Taylor haul with one of Hellings' efforts coming in the form of the highest checkout of 150.

That checkout came in Hellings (25.55) 3-1 win over Jamie Roberts in which Hellings added legs of 18 and 15 darts in riposte to Roberts 110 three dart combination out shot.

Those legs were part of a smattering of short games over the 501 distance as Matthews won 3-1 with one leg coming in 16 whilst Neil White's 3-0 success saw a solitary 17 darter.

After going 2-0 down after the trebles phase, the title holders and odds on favourites showed their class in all three doubles matchups.

Taylor and Matthews checked 601 in 20 darts during their 2-1 win whilst Hellings threw one of the three maximums in a pairs win with Alfie Ford for a 27.85 single dart average.

The third duo White and Fred Goldsmith, who himself finished his night on ten tons, added a 19 dart leg over the 601 format to put the Stonehouse side 3-2 up going into the singles phase.

Hellings aforementioned 180 was joined by an effort from Ford in his 3-1 win whilst Nigel Bassett added his team's only maximum during a 3-1 individual defeat.

Fifteen tons from Danny Bull included his team's only maximum, but that tally couldn't provide a catalyst for Raffles as they fell to Bluebird A 9-2.

Alan Masters two maximums and a 101 checkout added the cherry on top of his twelve ton plusses whilst James Stoodley contributed heavily to the win with ten tons.

Those highlighted Masters efforts came in a 3-1 individual win that was secured with legs in 12 and 16 darts whilst Glenn Halford's 90 checkout had to settle for second best.

Legends Lounge top the week one standings after an 11-0 win over Saltram that featured the quartet of Mark Shears, Dan Brazier, Scott Wapshott and Scott Cook all throwing eleven tons.

Cook and Wapshott's totals were accented by two maximums each whilst Mark Shears added a solitary 180 to go with his game high checkout of 125.

Cook's 3-0 individual triumph came with the help of legs in 15 and 16 darts whilst the best leg of the match was put away by Wapshott in just 14 during another success without loss.

King Billy started their season with an 8-3 win over Fawn A in which Antony Hayman top scored with ten tons including one of the three maximums.

Paddy Archibald added a brace of three treble visits whilst Hayman's (28.60) 160 checkout came in a 3-0 win that was put away with thanks to legs in 18, 18 and 16 darts.

The only moment of magic from the Greenbank side came from new signing Dave Pethick who checked 116 in one visit during his 3-1 individual triumph.

A George Beckett ten ton haul lit up Steampacket's 6-5 win over Victory with the game coming down Beckett's singles in the eleventh and final rubber of the match.

Beckett (25.91) didn't disappoint as he threw a leg in 17 darts during a 3-0 win which came after a 121 checkout in a doubles success that gave him the highest finish of the match.

Marc Webber fired the game's only maximum before being downed 3-0 in the individual phase by Kevin Marshall (24.64) who found one leg in just 16 during a 3-0 success.

Colebrook were as many as 8-0 down away at Cherry Tree A before a mini revival made the score line a little more respectable at 8-3 to the latter.

Rick Trinder's 180 came in the last point won for the Pennycross side before Darren Smith added his team's only three treble visit in a 3-0 win.

Nathan Langdon completed a ten ton personally tally in his win whilst James Ewing's 161 checkout helped him to a 3-1 success, which was the highest of both the match and the week overall.
