Porters drop down to second after taken full distance

DESPITE a win, albeit by the narrowest of margins, Porters A have dropped down into second spot in the Monday Premier League after being taken the full distance in an extraordinary game.

The Barbican side were romping to victory against fourth-placed Steam Packet B by a 5-0 margin only for the visitors to turn it around.

Quinton Taylor halted the slide when winning 3-0, aided by the week’s highest checkout of 120 and four singles matches later, Neil White (100x13) had made it 5-5.

But Porters had the last word and Lewis Dare clinched it with a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Maritime have now moved up to take over pole position following their 8-3 win over The Tradesman, only their second defeat in 17 matches.

Dan Scott (100x12) top scored for the winners while Tony Lamerton was on target with two maximums for The Tradesman.

The Octagon derby match was expected to be well contested and so it proved with the B side coming back to take the last singles through Alfie Ford and Steve Daley.

But they did lead 3-1, before Octagon A dug in and had Fred Goldsmith (above) and Lee Hellings emerging 2-0 winners in their doubles game, aided by a leg in 19.

Goldsmith then went on to have an excellent 3-1 singles success in 15, 17 and 18 but they were finally edged out, despite coming back to lead 5-4.

Brewery Tap took maximum points at Cherry Tree’s expense but Alan Masters, despite being defeated 3-2 in the singles by John Carr, put in a good shift and top scored with 13 throws of a ton or more.

Adam Searle (100x11) was prominent for Plympton Cons in their 8-3 victory over Porters B, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Indian Inn B on their visit to Steam Packet A.

Victory Inn A consolidated third spot with a 7-4 success away at Cherry Tree B with Gary Phillips (100x14) as their top scorer and Keelan Kay catching the eye when emerging a 3-0 singles winner, aided by a leg in 15.

In the two remaining fixtures, Victory Inn B won by the odd game when hosting Bluebird and Prince Maurice A were 9-2 winners away at Indian Inn A.
