Octagon consolidate at top but first defeat for Cons A

OCTAGON Social Club consolidated their position at the top of the Plymouth City Super League when they inflicted on The Clifton an 11-0 whitewash, with Steve Packer (100x11) and Fred Goldsmith (100x11) both prominent.
Plympton Cons A lost for the first time when they were edged out 6-5 at Maritime B, one of six fixtures that was won by the narrowest of margins.
The hosts came from behind and clinched the last three singles after Dave Collins (100x18) had put the Plympton side in front with a 3-2 victory aided by a leg in 15.

The Albermarle rallied to take the last three singles, which included a 3-2 victory for Neil Holder (100x11) to win 6-5 against Fawn B while Kings Arms defeated Compton 8-3, despite a good win from Lee Hunter, who emerged a 3-0 winner aided by a checkout of 119.
Maritime C won by the odd game in 11 away at Ker St Social Club as did Maritime A when visiting Plympton Cons B.
Neil White top scored with 11 throws of a ton or more which included two maximums while his Maritime team mate Stew Roberts was the player who won the decisive sixth point.
Porters secured maximum points when hosting Victoria while another 11-0 success was also claimed by The Staddy against Cherry Tree, the highlight being a checkout of 130, executed by Simon Kelly.
The week’s top outshot though was achieved by Paul Carpenter (pictured above) with a mark of 139, but he finished up on the wrong end of a 6-5 scoreline when Ships Tavern were edged out away at St Levan.
Maria O’Brien inspired the Keyham side when top-scoring with 17 ton plus throws and she was well supported by Trish Penberthy and Anna Johnson who were both 3-1 winners in the singles.
The Tradesman won 6-5 when hosting Bluebird and had Paul Bowen (100x12) top scoring as did Glenn Halford (100x12) for the visitors.
