KTCC look champions despite 14 matches remaining

THERE are 14 matches still remaining before the completion of the Plymouth and District Friday League season, but Kings Tamerton Community Centre would have to play very badly not to win the title come April.

They will start 2019, 20 points clear of their nearest rivals after a 12-1 victory away at Octagon Social Club, buoyed by a 37-dart singles win for Richard Lynch (27.05).

The highest checkout of the week was also claimed by the tabletoppers when they had both Simon Godfrey and John Brownlow achieving outshots of 116.

Second placed Royal Naval Arms A defeated Brewery Tap B 10-3 and began the fixture in style when Andy Bates (100x14), Nathan Beeney and Ant Pearn (32.29) claimed their treble in 31 darts.

Bates (29.44) went on to finish off a comprehensive showing when he clinched his singles in 34.

Mike O’Brien (27.81) finished a 36-dart singles victory with an outshot of 102, inspiring The Tradesman to a 12-1 victory over Royal Naval Arms B and the winning scoreline was also achieved by both Brewery Tap A and Mainstone Social Club against Pennycross and City Social B respectively.

City Social A surprisingly took all 13 points when hosting The Windmill, which included a win in 31 for Glyn Wells (32.29) (pictured), which equalled the week’s best and an encouraging singles success for 16-year-old Jordan Grimshaw against Steve Marker.

Dinky Diner B came from behind and clinched the last three singles to prevail by the narrowest of margins away at Queen and Constitution while Steam Packet were 11-2 winners against Bull and Bush and had Neal Hotchkiss (28.60) winning in 35.

Dinky Diner A led Indian Inn A 3-1 after the early exchanges but were taken to 6-6 before Steve Cottingham (27.81) won the winning point when finishing a 36-darter with a kill of 109.

Kieran Harris recorded an outshot of 108 in Victory Inn’s 8-5 success away at Porters, while Weston Mill OV also won by the same margin against Queens Dock and had Kevin Evans (26.34) winning in 38.
