Octagon A suffer first defeat but remain tabletoppers
AFTER 13 wins on the bounce, Octagon A suffered their first defeat in the Monday Premier League when they lost 7-4 to visitors Victory Inn A.
Keelan Kay (29.47) emerged a 3-0 winner in 18, 17 and 16 but Fred Goldsmith (100x12) brought the teams level at 4-4, only for Victory to take the last three singles which included a win for Tony Conn (100x12).
Octagon still command their position at the top of the table, but Steam Packet are now just 13 points behind with two matches in hand.
They defeated Maritime Social 8-3, inspired by a very good singles performance from Neil White (30.67) who emerged a 3-0 winner in 16, 15 and 19.
Kieran Burns (27.83) caught the eye for Maritime when securing his singles in 18, 15 and 21.
The Tradesman are in second spot but were taken the full distance by Porters A.
John Mann (100x16) hit two maximums and secured legs in 14 and 15 before winning his singles 3-1 but despite Adam Truscott bringing the teams level at 5-5, Tony Lamerton (pictured) won the deciding 11th point for the hosts.
Victory Inn B defeated Ford 7-4 while Indian Inn A and Bluebird D were both 8-3 winners against Bluebird A and Indian Inn B respectively.
Octagon B won the last two singles to edge out Plympton Cons 6-5 and there was also a close encounter at Bluebird C who won by the narrowest of margins when hosting Firkin Scholar.
Frankie Stout hit a 14-darter in a 3-1 singles success to put the visitors 4-3 up only for Bluebird C to win three on the bounce which included a victory for top scorer Glenn Halford (100x14).
Brewery Tap won 8-3 away at Porters B and had Scott Cook (100x12) hitting a 15-darter in a 3-1 singles success and Paul Gavican (100x13) as their leading marksman.
Paul Freeman (100x12) was on target for Porters B and they also achieved the week’s highest checkout of 136 through Dave Meyrick.
