Beckett's 160 Steam Of The Crop For Packet

George Beckett produced another moment of magic in the Plymouth City Super League with a 160 checkout that now holds the spot reserved for the highest checkout of the season.

Beckett added ten more tons to that effort, including two 180s, to take his evening's work to eleven three figures scores and lead his Steampacket team to an 11-0 win over Half Moon.

To accent a remarkable performance, Beckett also bagged himself a 12 darter in his 3-0 singles success whilst teammate Phil Taylor scored a third maximum for the Devonport team.

Roger Backway's seventeen ton plusses was unrivalled across all the week's fixtures but he still ended up on the wrong end of a 7-4 defeat as Victory A got the better of Kings Arms B.

Dave Johns supported his teammate admirably with eleven tons overall but two 180s and legs in 16 and 18 from Danny Allen in a 3-1 win helped the Honicknowle side on the road to success.

Other maximums in the match came from Darren Collis and Scott Cook to give the team four in total during the match.

Cook won his singles 3-1 with winning legs coming in just 14, 17 and 14 darts whilst Backway showed he had more about him than just scoring as he took the high checkout honours in the match with a fine 86 kill.

Kings Arms A also fell to defeat by the same 7-4 score line as Saltram's Warren Gordon fired in thirteen ton plusses, including the high checkout of 146.

Dave Algar and Simon Kelly both added 180s to the scoreboard for the victors whilst the latter also threw a fine total of eleven tons personally, and finished a 17 dart leg in a 3-1 individual triumph.

Mike Sant provided the Oreston team's only noteworthy contribution to the proceedings with an 18 dart leg in a 3-1 loss to the in form Gordon.

Scott Wapshott's twelve tons led King Billy to a 7-4 success away at Colebrook in a matchup that also saw Antony Hayman add his name to the maximum column twice on his way to eleven tons.

In a 3-0 singles success, Hayman finished legs in 14 and 13 darts whilst his victim in that particular game, Dave Reed, notched his team's only maximum.

Steve Hiscox was also in vintage form for the defeated Plympton team as he picked off 104 in a single visit to give him the highest checkout of the contest honours.

Those dropped King Billy points, and Octagon's 11-0 demolition job on Raffles, allowed the Stonehouse team to join their rivals on 93 points after ten games played each to leave the championship race finely poised.

Neil White (31.98) was the cream of a good crop of players for the title chasers as he won his singles 3-0 in 15, 15 and 17 darts.

White also top scored with eleven tons whilst teammate John Mann (26.81) was also impressive as he bagged ten tons overall, and a 17 dart leg in a 3-1 singles win.

Mann had to hit a maximum, one of two in the match personally, to hold off the challenge of a spirited Danny Bull who won a leg in 18 darts in that contest to push the three time Champion of Champions all the way.

The only other leg won by Mutley team on the night came in another 3-1 individual defeat; this time for Eddie Bull who finished a fabulous three dart combination from 118.

Mann and teammate Dave Matthews combined for a 40 dart 1001 leg that yielded a 25.03 single dart average helped along by three of Matthews' ten tons on the night.

That game was however usurped by White and partner Fred Goldsmith (29.44) who ripped through their 1001 doubles game in just 34 darts.

Goldsmith was a fourth Octagon player to reach ten tons and checked a leg in 15 darts during his 3-0 win that also saw him throw his team's third maximum of the contest.

Victoria's 7-4 away win at Bluebird saw Mick Bingham reach eleven tons for the victors with that total rounded off by a 102 checkout; the highest of the match.

Glenn Halford impressed for the defeated Compton team with eleven tons of his own, and the former Champion of Champions runner-up also managed an 18 dart leg in his 3-0 singles win.

Ian Heggie continued the form the helped him reach the recent Champion of Champions Final's Night with eleven tons and a 96 checkout.

But that wasn't enough to stop his Ker St team falling to an 8-3 defeat to Bluebird B; for which Dan Hurley reached ten tons and Dale Halford scored the only maximum of the tie.

The Greenbank derby match between Fawn A and Clifton ended in a 6-5 success for the former with Simon Stevenson largely contributing to that success with eleven tons.

The victors from the south of North Hill took a 1-0 lead thanks to a fine 113 checkout from Dan Bunney and extended that lead to 3-0 with the first maximum of the match from Stevenson.

Clifton took the next three with the last of that run including a 180 from Wayne Town in a 3-0 singles win to leave the match nicely balanced.

The next four were shared, which left Stevenson on last and he duly delivered his team the victory with two more maximums and legs of 13, 16 and 18 in a 3-1 success.

John Greatrex's 103 checkout was the only noteworthy contribution to proceedings as Cherry Tree defeated Victory C 8-3 whilst Hyde Park got the better of Duchy of Cornwall 6-5 thanks in part to a Lee Dennis 112 finish.

Paul Hoare's 116 finish and an 18 dart leg for Shaune Kittle weren't enough for Victory B to take the spoils from their home match with St Levans as the Keyham side won 6-5.
