Duo Dare'd To Dream Of Title After Giving Opponents Hell

The Monday Premier League end of season doubles tournament was won by Lee Hellings and Lewis Dare of the Octagon A at the Bluebird; stopping rivals Tradesmans from achieving a league and competition double.

The competition played at the best of three format over a 601 distance attracted most of the league's top players in what was a brutal event with star pairings going out early doors across the fixtures played.

Dare and Hellings run to the title start in the Preliminary Round as they overcame a strong home pairing of Glenn Halford and James Stoodley of the Bluebird C 2-0.

Tradesmans' runners-up Jaden Whitting and Mike O'Brien hit one of eight maximums in the competition in their 3-0 win; dumping out another home favourite in Wayne Oddie and Dale Halford of the Bluebird B 2-0.

Whitting and O'Brien also checked a 601 leg in just 17 darts during that contest to put their names amongst the elite thirty-two left in the competition.

Two Bluebird teams that did make it through the cut throat first stage were Alan Masters and Jack McMinn from the A team and Micky Organ and Nick Perring from the C side.

Masters 180 helped the A team duo to a 2-0 over Cherry Tree B's Marc Webber and Dave Lee whilst Perring finished 100 to help his side over the line 2-1 versus King Billy's Jamie Lofthouse and Sam Truscott.

A 120 checkout and a maximum from Andy Bates saw him and fellow Tradesmans' teammate Fred Goldsmith over the line in a 2-0 success over fancied pair Alfie Ford and Simon Washington of Octagon A.

Dare and Hellings' next outing saw them defeat Octagon stablemates Paul Barclay and Owen Cook from the B team 2-0.

Paul Goundry produced the highest checkout of the finals with a 124 in his and Victory B team partner Ant Pearn's 2-1 win over Octagon B pairing of Dave Wyatt and Ryan Ring.

That bettered a 103 checkout from a Victory B teammate Scott Cook in his and Paul Gavican's 2-0 success over the all lady pairing of Kayleigh Adams and Mel Sharpe of Cherry Tree B.

In an all Bluebird C clash, Glenn Austin's maximum couldn't halt him and his teammate Callum Strickson's slide towards the exit as they were downed by teammates Organ and Perring.

The quarter final stage is where Dare and Hellings (33.39) really showed their title credentials with legs of 19 and 17 darts getting the better of Goundry and Pearn.

Dare's 180 in the clash was his first of the evening, which helped them setup a clash with Masters and McMinn who ended the hopes of another Bluebird team, Keith Lemon and John Merrifield of the A team.

Whitting and O'Brien put themselves into the semi finals by bettering their fellow Monday Premier League title winning teammates Goldsmith and Bates 2-0.

Their opponents would be Cook and Gavican who edged Organ and Perring 2-1 to setup a clash with Whitting and O'Brien.

That matchup was the most action packed of the evening as both Whitting and Cook hit 180s and Tradesmans 20 dart leg was replied with a 16 darter from the Victory B.

O'Brien's 106 checkout though made the difference as they setup a clash with Dare and Hellings who dispatched Masters and McMinn 2-0.

Dare chalked up a second maximum, which proved to be crucial in a 2-1 success for him and Hellings who took the title from their local rivals to gain some revenge for losing out to Tradesmans in the league.
