Lee Like A Bat Out Of Hell-in Kings Defeat

Lee Hellings remarkable seventeen ton salvo wasn't enough to arrest Kings Arms slide to an 8-3 defeat against Fawn B in the Steve Chapman 501 League.

Hellings joined teammate Dave Johns in hearing a maximum called after throwing whilst Jaden Whitting provided most of the firepower for the victors with a brace of 180s on his way to fourteen tons.

Whitting was well supported in the win by Fred Goldsmith and Andy Bates who both reached ten tons whilst Johns aforementioned maximum gave him the final part of another ten ton tally.

Hellings 100 checkout was only bettered on the night by a 106 from teammate Paul Palmer whilst there was a 16 darter from Johns in a 3-2 loss to Bates.

Hellings also found himself on the wrong end of a five leg defeat as Steve Marker got the better of the Cornwall man despite Hellings hitting one of two 18 dart legs in the game.

Whitting provided the other in a third singles game that was won by a 3-2 score line; the Oreston side maybe feeling hard done by with their points return having seen six of the eleven ties come down to a single leg.

Antony Hayman was one of three King Billy players to reach double figures in ton plusses as his thirteen tons led the way in a 9-2 win over Indian Inn.

Hayman's total was accented by a 160 checkout that was the highest of the match and week across all fixtures in the league; an effort joined by one of three maximums in the game.

Hayman's 180 was quickly following by another in the very next King Billy throw from Frankie Stout as the pair knitted together a truly remarkable 14 dart 601 leg (180, 180, 140, 83, 18 in 2).

That incredible feat is just three darts short of the world record and perfect game of 11 darts over the 601 format, which was achieved by Brian Rowling of Surrey in 1993.

Andrew Cook's twelve ton haul was overshadowed by the achievement of his teammates whilst Scott Cook's eleven tons came with three moments of magic.

Checkouts of 129 and 120, and the game's third maximum, were the cherry on top of a marvellous individual performance.

The only glimpse of resistance for the defeated side came from Mark Hatherley who added eleven three figure scores overall.

Lee Rodmell fired thirteen ton plusses but still found himself on the wrong end of an entertaining defeated as Bar Mez were eventually toppled by Fawn A.

Rodmell put one of the six maximums in the match onto the scoreboard as teammate Mike Bulmer's brace was added to by a solitary effort from Paul Tackle who reached twelve tons personally.

Mike Nancholas recorded both of the Greenbank side's 180s as his pair of efforts ticked his ton tally over to the ten mark.

That was only bettered for the Fawn by teammate Mike Bassett who reached eleven three figure scores overall during a 3-2 win that setup the final singles shootout that was won by Mark Sargeant with the scores tied at 5-5.

The sharp-shooting wasn't curtailed to the scoring phase as Simon White's 90 checkout was bettered twice by Rodmell's 92 and a Tackle 93.

Rodmell's 3-1 triumph in the individual phase also contained a leg in 16 darts, which was the shortest provided by all twelve competitors on display.

Jayden Dodd struck twelve ton plusses, including a 120 checkout, in Octagon's 8-3 win over Ker St for whom Lewis Byrne added a shanghai finish of his own on his way to ten tons.

Dodd teamed with Alfie Ford (28.62) to put away their 601 doubles game 2-0 with a brace of 21 dart legs whilst Simon Washington's 17 darter in a 3-1 win was the best mustered over the 501 distance.

In the very next singles rubber, Byrne defeated Ralph Lancaster 3-0, with one of the winning legs coming in just 18 darts against the veteran who threw the only maximum of the match in riposte.

A second 18 darter of the match came from the arm of Robbie Bisgrove who fired during a 3-1 individual triumph.

Scott Lawrey top scored with eleven tons to lead Victory A to a 10-1 win over Duchy in which Lawrey (28.90) demolished his singles opponent with legs of 15 and 16 darts.

Mark Shears eleven tons included the highest checkout of 120 during Victory C's 10-1 success in the Victory derby match against Victory Hammers.

Billy Evans and Jason Pinkerton also found moments of brilliance in the match; the latter netting a maximum and a checkout of 100.

Evans upstaged his teammate by going one better in the 180 stakes and providing a 17 dart leg to go with a 100 finish of his own.
