Stevenson Rockets To Fifteen Ton Haul

Simon Stevenson fired fifteen ton plusses in the Plymouth City Super League but still somehow found himself on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat as Raffles bested Fawn A.

A pair of 18 darters in a 3-1 win helped Stevenson get the better of a resurgent Danny Bull who smashed in a leg in just 18 and one of four maximums in the match overall himself.

Three of those went to the victors as Bull's effort was added to by teammate Alec Turner and son Harry Bull with Mark Hempsall throwing the Greenbank team's only 180.

Dave Roberts was also in good form as he added eleven tons to the scoreboard, a brace of 18 darters in a 3-0 singles success, and the game's highest finish of 90.

James Ewing top scored for the Mutley outfit as he reached ten tons and won his singles 3-1 thanks in part to legs in 18 and 16 darts.

Ewing's 16 dart feat was repeated by Harry Bull in a 3-0 win, which contributed to a well fought battle between two good sides.

Wayne Town's thirteen tons helped Clifton return from their visit to Steampacket with a 6-5 win that was won on the last tie of the evening.

Town's teammate Ross Blake threw a 100 checkout against George Beckett who reached ten tons of his own for the defeated Devonport side; Beckett winning that particular matchup 3-1.

Steampacket led three times before being pegged back to 5-5 going into the last game where Kev Seal got his team over the line with a 3-0 success.

Victory A continue to cement their position as third best in the league after an 8-3 win that was contributed to heavily by a thirteen three figure score haul from Scott Cook.

The Honicknowle team are also gaining themselves a reputation as the leading 180 hitters in the division after six efforts in this match followed eight efforts last week.

Danny Allen gave most credence to that opinion with his three being added to by Cook twice and teammate Darren Collis a solitary time, which put the icing on top of ten tons personally.

Collis added to that double figure haul with a 106 finish in a singles game that he lost to the talented Frankie Stout who hit a 180 of his own during the 3-2 triumph over his more senior opponent.

Reg Matthews showed there's still plenty of life in the old dog yet with a 15 darter in a narrow 3-2 defeat; Allen repeating that during his 3-0 win in the final rubber of the night.

Octagon continue to stretch their lead at the top after an 11-0 whitewash win over Victoria which saw four of their six starters claimed ten or more tons.

Neil White and Lee Hellings had to share the top scorer honours with thirteen three figure scores; the former hitting the game's only two maximums in the process.

The next best haul came from John Mann who added a finish of 116 to his twelve ton plusses overall whilst captain Fred Goldsmith continued his spate of good form with ten tons overall.

The Stonehouse team burst out of the blocks from the first 'game on' call once again with Mann, Dave Matthews and Alfie Ford (27.05) putting on a 37 dart 1001 leg in the first trebles.

That was swiftly followed by Hellings, Goldsmith and White who (27.05) together managed the second trebles in exactly the same number of darts.

The title favourites showed no mercy in the singles as Mann and White checked a leg in 15 during their 3-0 wins and Hellings 3-1 win was accented by a 16 darter.

King Billy's attempts to cling onto the leader's coat tails were further dented by that result, and dropping two points to Victory B in a 9-2 success.

Paul Palmer added ten tons for the second placed side and all looked rosy as the reigning champions built a 3-0 lead thanks to a 1001 leg in 38 darts for Palmer and partner Paddy Archibald (26.34).

The points continued to rain down as Antony Hayman and Paul Goundry (28.60) paired for a 35 dart final doubles to make the score 5-0.

Hayman (30.06) then won his individual game 3-0 as his team's first 180 of the match helped him towards legs of 15, 17 and 18 darts.

Palmer then returned to battle through against an inspired Kelvin Rowe who nailed two maximums in his 3-2 defeat.

Palmer added one of his own as well as a crucial 18 darter that affectively decided the tie to give the 'Billy Boyz' a 7-0 lead.

After two more King Billy wins made it nine without reply, Scott Hutchinson finally helped his Honicknowle side gain a foothold into the game with a 92 checkout during his 3-2 success.

Lewis Dare (28.36) then produced a masterclass in his 3-0 win that came thanks to legs of 17, 18 and 18 darts; this performance adding to the maximum Dare had hit earlier in the contest.

Darren Smith was in inspired form for the Colebrook as he put two maximums, a 120 checkout, and a leg in 14 darts onto the score sheet during his team's 8-3 win.

Smith's teammate Andy Bond also added a brace of efforts but fell to Mark Sargeant in the singles who checked a leg thanks to a 94 finish in his 3-2 success.

Another singles success for the Greenbank side came from the hand of Mike Bassett who won a single leg in 14 darts during his 3-1 triumph.

A ten ton haul from Quinton Taylor couldn't prevent Victory C from falling to an 8-3 home defeat to Ker St who had both Ian Heggie and Paul Tackle adding maximums.

Taylor's singles was won 3-1 with legs of 15 and 17 darts whilst Tackle also added the highest checkout of the contest; a 115 kill.

A 10-1 for Kings Arms B over St Levans was lit up by Martyn Down's maximum and a 102 checkout for his Down's teammate Roger Backway.

Lee Dennis added a maximum and a checkout of 85 in a single visit in a 9-2 success for Hyde Park over Half Moon; for whom Kevin Marshall threw his team's only 180.

James Stoodley produced the only moment of magic between Bluebird A and Kings Arms A with the former taking the spoils 8-3.

Jordan Heath's 97 checkout couldn't produce a single point for his Duchy of Cornwall side as they fell to an 11-0 defeat to visitor's Cherry Tree.
