Super League's Top Guns Clash In Thriller

Statistically, John Mann and George Beckett are the top two players in the Plymouth City Super League this season, having traded places at the top of the division's Players Championship standings all season.

The rare occasion of the two meeting happened as the pair were drawn out in opposition during an 11-0 win for Mann's Octagon over Beckett's Steam Packet.

The individual contest didn't disappoint as Mann (28.48) got the better of his rival 3-2 with winning legs of 16, 14 and 17 darts.

Beckett certainly contributed to the event with thirteen tons overall; winning his legs in the aforementioned defeat in seven visits to the board.

Mann's 180 in the slim victory proved crucial; this was joined by fourteen more tons for fifteen three figure scores total, whilst teammate Lee Hellings also nailed a maximum on his way to fourteen tons.

Dave Matthews was also brilliant with fourteen three figure scores including two ton plus out shots; a 102 in his 3-1 singles win only bettered by his 136 in a doubles win with Mann.

The demolition job by the runaway leaders against a very good Devonport side, who themselves still have ambitions of finishing fourth, started in the team games with five 25 plus averages in the five 1001 rubbers.

The best of which coming from Mann and Matthews (30.33), whilst Neil White and Fred Goldsmith also paired for a 28.60 single dart display.

White showed his class throughout for the division's dominant side with a brace of 180s on his way to twelve three figure scores personally.

Alfie Ford hit the first 18 dart leg of the match in a 3-0 win with Matthews providing the other in the Stonehouse venue's eleventh and final win of the game.

Mike Whatley returned to the Super League fold when turning out for Victory A in a 7-4 success over Raffles, and looked like he'd never left after a long absence.

Twelve tons overall game him the kudos of the game's top scorer whilst also bettering Danny Bull 3-2 in the singles, who reached ten tons himself.

Paul Gavican's 17 darter in a 3-0 win was only bettered by a leg in 16 from Danny Allen who also won by the same score line.

Another 16 darter in the match helped James Ewing claim the notable scalp of Scott Cook by a score line of 3-1 whilst teammate Alec Turner provided the only maximum of the game for both sides.

Josh Cresland may have lost 3-1 in the individuals, but his 126 three dart combination out shot in that defeat claimed the best checkout of the match.

Quinton Taylor's eleven ton plusses and ten more from Adam Truscott couldn't arrest Victory C's slide to a 7-4 defeat at Colebrook.

Taylor's 3-1 individual win was littered with legs of 17 and 18 darts whilst the best finish of the match came from the hand of Dan Harris with a 106 checkout.

There was a wait until the very last battle of a hotly contest matchup for the first 180 as Darren Smith provided that in a 3-1 personal success.

Hyde Park suffered a 6-5 loss to Bluebird A, but not before Ben Welsh had put eleven tons onto the scoreboard whilst teammates Mike Trim and Andy Hawes provided moments of magic.

Hawes joined Welsh in hitting a maximum whilst Trim provided a 98 checkout in a 3-1 individual success, which was one of three claimed at the backend of the game to make the score line more than respectable.

Glenn Halford generally had a quiet night by his sky high usual standards but still managed to plough in a 17 darter in a 3-0 win that got his team their sixth and final point of the evening.

Stephen Mills' eleven tons provided a catalyst for the Cherry Tree to get the better of Saltram 8-3; one of those coming in the form of his team's only maximum.

Mills and teammate Lee added legs in 17 during their singles whilst the pair also teamed with Nick Miller (27.05) for a 37 dart 1001 leg.

Rick Trinder's 95 checkout was the best of all twenty-six finishes recorded by the twelve involved but he went onto to lose 3-1 to Reg Matthews who himself added the defeated team's only 180.

Sean Burkitt and Heather Toney's ten ton salvos led Victory B to a 7-4 success over Bluebird B who themselves had Callum Strickson and Jamie Roberts firing 180s.

Paul Hoare provided the Honicknowle side with their only three treble visit of the match whilst teammate Adam Fell put a 98 checkout onto the scoreboard and Burkitt's 18 darter in a 3-0 success wasn't bested.

An 8-3 win for Kings B in their visit to Ker St saw Dave Johns top scored with ten ton plusses whilst also providing a clinical display in the individual phase.

Johns (28.90) threw a leg in 16 darts and two in 18 during a 3-0 win against Fred Lamerton who had earlier put up the only 180 of the evening.

Lamerton's teammate Paul Tackle also showed for one throw at least his class with a brilliant 113 checkout to take one of the three doubles games for his team.

King Billy claimed all the points, and legs, on offer in an 11-0 whitewash win in their visit to Duchy B, with Paddy Archibald one of two standout performers.

Archibald (27.83) showed the form that's made him one of the top players around with legs of 15 and 17 darts in a 3-0 win that also included a 120 checkout and a 180.

The game started off with an absolute barn storming 1001 leg from Lee Doncaster, Antony Hayman and Paul Goundry (35.75) that was finished off in just 28 darts.

Hayman went on to add his team's second maximum in the match whilst his 106 checkout that rounded off a thirteen ton haul had to settle for third best as Paul Palmer checked 112 in a single visit.

Rob Wills 110 checkout provided some solace for Duchy A who fell to an 8-3 defeat to Fawn B; for whom Alan Brady popped 100 in just one visit to the board in a 3-1 individual triumph.

A local Plymstock derby between Kings A and Victoria saw the latter claim a 6-5 away win as Gary Eaton's 105 checkout gave them one of the six winning points.

Mike Sant's 17 darter proved to be crucial in a five leg thriller of a singles that was eventually won by the Oreston man.
