Brookside move up to challenge for top spot

BROOKSIDE A have moved up the table on the back of an 11-0 win and are just one point behind the early leaders in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League.

They whitewashed Waterloo Inn without dropping a leg in the singles and had Gary Phillips (100x14) as their leading marksman.

Fawn A won 7-4 at Duchy of Cornwall to go second, a berth they now share with Brookside.

Falstaff opened their account when defeating Cherry Tree 9-2, recording 55 scores of a ton or more in the process.

Lewis Dare was their leading exponent and top scored with 15 ton plus throws which included two maximums.

Alex Turner (100x13) caught the eye as Kings Arms won 9-2 away at The Clifton while Fawn B triumphed 8-3 against Compton and had Fred Goldsmith hitting a 14-darter in a 3-0 singles success.

Torpoint Cons had Neil Reid hitting a brace of maximums and Keith Bryant and Lee Rodmell took out a 601 doubles leg in 18, but Octagon Social Club made a great recovery to win 6-5, despite trailing 4-1 and 5-2.

Maritime Marauders made it two wins on the bounce when they defeated their stablemates Maritime Misfits in an excellent showing from both teams.

38.14 AVERAGE: Jason Pinkerton was part of the Maritime Marauders trio that secured their 801 trebles game in 21 darts.

The Marauders laid the gauntlet down in the opening treble when Phil Hoyle, Dave Matthews and Jason Pinkerton won the 801-leg in 21 darts, posting a 38.14 average.

Matthews also went on to win his singles in three straight legs, aided by a leg in 15.

Steve Pearce (30.67) gave a good account of himself for the opposition and emerged a 3-0 singles winner in 13, 18 and 18.

Porters Patriots top the table by a single point following a 9-2 defeat of their house rivals Porters Pretenders, recording no fewer than 70 ton plus scores in doing so.

John Mann (100x14) top scored for the winners while Mark Shears (100x14) was on target for the Pretenders.

Indian Inn won 9-2 away at City Social but were denied a clean sweep of the points in the individual phases when Maria O’Brien (100x17) edged out Ian Heggie 3-2 who hit a 14-darter.

Plympton Cons won 8-3 at Maritime Misfits and had a 3-0 singles winner in Andy Malinowski (25.05) who took legs in 21, 21 and 18.

The winners also picked up the award for the week’s highest checkout when Dave Collins finished at the first time of asking from 122.
